We’ll have a short excursion to Pwll Tra, the Pool of Avarice, for a short tea break before ascending through the mountain gate onto Mynydd Henllys Common and then on to Twmbarlwm. We will descend via the Raven Walk and walk back to the visitor centre via the Lake.
The walk runs next to the Nant Carn past the lake to the warden’s lodge & then the forest road on the left side of the valley to Blaen Carn before ascending up the footpath just outside NRW land to the stile back into NRW land and then taking the path and forest road towards CP2
This year’s Good Friday walk, held in conjunction with Islwyn Ramblers, is setting off tomorrow at 9.30 am from the lower car park at the Visitor Centre
There were several reports of motorbikes being spotted in the Carn & Gwyddon valleys & Twmbarlwm over the weekend. Please ensure that you report any sightings to Gwent Police. The more reports the police get the more they can tackle this issue. Please share.
🌳 🌲 Cwmcarn Forest Drive Re-Opened — 21 June 2021 🌳🌲
Thank you to @CwmcarnFriends who joined me to mark the momentous moment when the Drive re-opened.
This has been one of the proudest achievements of my political life — #Islwyn transformed by @WelshLabour’s Government
Since I was elected in 2016, I committed that I would work to restore and reopen Cwmcarn Scenic Drive
Working with the Friends of Cwmcarn Forest Drive, Labour run Caerphilly Council and the Welsh Labour Government we achieved the seemingly impossible

Rydym yn gobeithio y bydd pobl yn deall ein rhesymau dros ohirio hyn. Unwaith y bydd gennym well syniad o bryd y gallai fod yn ddiogel ystyried ailagor, byddwn yn rhoi gwybod ichi naturalresourceswales.gov.uk…
Roeddem wedi gobeithio gallu croesawu ymwelwyr am y tro cyntaf yn ddiweddarach y mis hwn, ond mae’n rhaid i leihau effaith y pandemig coronafeirws a diogelu iechyd pobl fod yn brif flaenoriaeth 👪
We hope that people will understand our reasons for postponing. Once we have a clearer idea of when it might be safe to consider reopening, we’ll let you know naturalresourceswales.gov.uk…
We had hoped to be able to welcome visitors for the first time later this month, but reducing the impact of the coronavirus pandemic and protecting people’s health has to remain top priority 👪
***There has been damage done in the last week to new facilities on the Drive at Car Park 3 (coed Odyn).
If you hear/see off-road vehicles (bikes or quads) around the Forest Drive, Rhyswg or on the common to Twmbarlwm please call 101 to report it to @gwentpolice ***
