I did something that's big news for me, and not typically what academic political scientists do: I wrote a parenting book about our subject. This is a medium-long thread on why/how.

Congratulations to “DCInbox Classroom: Making Representation Transparent for America250” (presented by Lindsey Cormack, @DCInbox @FollowStevens)! The project was one of three winners of our first-ever Civics Innovator Competition, held at the National Summit on Civic Education! Each winning presentation was chosen by live audience members and received a $10,000 prize. By utilizing DCInbox Classroom’s database of every official e-newsletter a member of Congress has sent to their constituents since 2009, this project will create curricular resources, adaptable classroom projects, and professional development opportunities for K-12 educators across the county so that teachers can bring the founding ideals of representation, transparency, and consent of the governed into their classroom through timely primary source documents. Learn more about DCinbox at the link below! buff.ly/RENEI0b

Today, I'm announcing that I'm running for the United States Senate. I'm a fifth-generation Kansan. My family came here 147 years ago and settled in a town called Hope. I'm running because Kansas — and our country — deserve better than what Washington has been giving us. We need leaders who put service above self, country before party, and people before politics. I'm an independent-minded Democrat. I’ll lead by listening. And I'll be a champion for Kansas. Join us: HamiltonForKansas.com

I know I usually post congressional comms graphs here, but I also wrote a book that I really like. When I opened my mail last night I got a pretty neat surprise about that book:

Can some political scientist who likes DW-NOMINATE data make a thing that we can use to quickly visualize specific members relative to everyone else?

Congressional Republicans (especially the men of the party) are far more likely to host their own podcasts, go on other podcasts, and talk about podcasts in their official constituents communications than Democrats - this is a key part of our politics that is under understood.
