The double standard is obvious. If it’s acceptable to say Celia Cruz should be portrayed by someone from her own cultural community, why is it controversial when Black Americans make the same argument about our historical figures? The inconsistency goes beyond Hollywood.

In 2003, Whoopi Goldberg was scheduled to star in the Celia Cruz biopic and them Cubans said “Stop! Celia no black!” So, the movie was canceled.
