Yes! The goal is data-informed instruction... there are no quick fixes. Let's spread the word to all NJ educators and parents: our state has a framework for a multi-tiered system of early reading assessment and instruction/intervention! #SOR#Dyslexia
Knowledge, skills, & resources are needed to support the early reading development of all students... it's MUCH MORE than curricula purchases or one-off trainings. A framework of NJTSS-ER results in a continuous cycle of data-informed instructional decision-making. #literacy#SOR
ALT First step is to collect data on the early reading proficiency of all k through 3 students through the administration of a universal screening assessment. Data are used to determine the extent to which core reading instruction is enabling students to meet benchmark expectations, & to identify which students may benefit from additional intervention supports to close skill gaps. In Tier 1, ongoing curriculum-embedded assessment data are collected & analyzed in order to inform differentiation & adjustment to core needs. Tier 1 implementation is also monitored to ensure instruction is being delivered with fidelity. For students who did not reach benchmark expectations on universal screening early reading indicators, diagnostic skill inventories are administered to determine which specific skills to target for intervention. With this data, interventions are planned & implemented. Ongoing progress monitoring is administered to determine student progress towards goals.
We're partnering with The Writing Revolution team to share out the work they are doing with NJ teachers - join us on March 6th, 2024 at 3:30 pm. Designed for educators, parents are welcome. Let's promote evidence-based writing instruction in NJ schools!
