With Tropical Storm Nicole striking the U.S. this week, the concern of significant impacts on forests looms. While most trees can tolerate 24-36 hours of flooding, age and species play a large role. Learn more from @NCState expert Dr. Bob Bardon: ncst.at/OcGv50Lz5oP

So much truth here! I've moved to a new state 6x in the past 9 years following my conservation career dreams. While I've met amazing people and lived in some amazing places, having to build community from scratch each time was exhausting.
Sitting here on a Sunday evening, reflecting on perhaps the worst (but not often talked about) aspect of academia: isolation and loneliness. My situation is a little extreme, but since graduating undergrad 7 years ago, I've moved to a new state/country 5 times! [1/n]

So, this happened. Grant County Sheriff’s office arrests USFS burn boss for “reckless burning” after prescribed burn spills over into private land. Can they do that? Is there any precedent??

(1/8) I am once again urging @RaleighGov leaders to reconsider their satisfaction with Hillsborough St. near NC State's North Campus. Despite the renewal project, the corridor is still profoundly ineffective in fostering safe and timely multimodal transportation.

Could the buildings around us store carbon and help reduce global emissions? Cross-laminated timber can store carbon during the building’s lifetime and even capture additional carbon. 🌳 Check out the five benefits of building with cross-laminated timber. ncst.at/6CbA50Kj9Fo

Modeling and mapping CC refugia can support on-the-ground decisions about when, where, and how to conserve!
Did you know that NE CASC researchers helped pioneer the concept of climate change refugia?🤯 These areas, which are buffered from climate change impacts, can provide protection for vulnerable species, preserve biodiversity, & sustain ecosystem function. bit.ly/3QmguzU
