NLI Director, Dr Audrey Whitty, was delighted to welcome Taoiseach @LeoVaradkar to the @NLIreland this week.
Dr Whitty briefed him on our plans to sensitively refurbish the west wing as a free and publicly accessible learning, cultural and exhibition space.
ALT Taoiseach Leo Varadkar, wearing a dark suit and blue tie, is standing and speaking closely with NLI Director Audrey Whitty, wearing a long blue dress, in the West Wing of the NLI. The concrete floors are bare, with evidence of building works. The pair stand among empty book stacks, no longer holding books or shelving. To the right, an old staircase is visible.
ALT Dr. Audrey Whitty, Director of the NLI (wearing a long blue dress) has her back to the camera and is visible in conversation with Taoiseach Leo Varadkar, who is leaning against an old ledge inside the NLI's west wing building, which is vacant of collections. Bare concrete floors can be seen, and crumbling concrete on the walls. Evidence of some building works can be observed. The window peers out onto Kildare street.
ALT A bright photograph featuring Taoiseach Leo Varadkar, smiling, wearing a dark suit and light coloured tie, with Director of NLI, Audrey Whitty. The pair are smiling as they lean over a booklet which is perched on a wooden table in the middle of the NLI's reading room. Bookshelves adorn the walls in the background of the image, and each desk has a wooden lamp with a green reading lampshade.

Last week the curtains drew on my 18-year journey @DHRComms - I’ve left behind an amazing team, in the heart of @libertiesdublin and still serving on public interest issues, including #education#regulation#culture#heritage. Bródúil agus hamhal.
