🗓️ 25 May 2026 marks eight years of the GDPR being the global standard for data protection rules. The DPC continues to safeguard the data protection rights of Irish and European citizens by driving compliance through guidance, supervision and enforcement.

We have announced our final decision following an inquiry into a series of personal data breaches at Permanent TSB.
The DPC's decision found that PTSB infringed the GDPR and has reprimanded PTSB and issued fines totalling €277,500.

The inquiry concerns SHEIN Ireland’s transfers of personal data of EU/EEA data subjects to China.

🗣️ Deputy Commissioner Graham Doyle on announcing the inquiry we have opened into SHEIN Ireland concerning transfers of personal data of EU/EEA data subjects to China.
ALT “When an individual’s personal data is transferred to a country outside the EU, the GDPR requires that this personal data is afforded essentially the same protections as it would within the EU. Recent action by the DPC, together with complaints to other European supervisory authorities, has brought data transfers to China, in particular, into focus. The inquiry is an important strategic priority for the DPC and we intend to cooperate closely with our peer European Supervisory Authorities as part of the investigation.”

The Data Protection Commission Announces Conclusion of Inquiry into University of Limerick
ALT LATEST NEWS The Data Protection Commission (DPC) has today published its final decision following an inquiry into a personal data breach in University of Limerick. The DPC assessed University of Limerick’s technical and organisational measures for ensuring the security of personal data that it processed and also examined compliance with the controller’s obligation to notify breaches promptly. The DPC reprimanded University of Limerick and imposed administrative fines totalling €98,000.
