For seniors in our Aging with Dignity program, guaranteed income has been more than financial support. These unconditional monthly payments have provided stability, peace of mind, and renewed dignity. As more older adults on fixed and extremely low incomes struggle to make ends meet, programs like this offer a promising path forward. Why is homelessness so bad here in the Bay Area? A recent analysis by Bay Area News Group found: high rents are the clearest factor separating the Bay Area from many other regions, worsening the other pressures that can push residents into homelessness. To address our homelessness crisis, communities need a multipronged and housing-centered approach that supports people in both the short-term and long-term. Ending Affordable Housing Month on a high note by breaking ground on RISE! 🏗️✨ RISE will soon bring 195 new apartments for our lowest-income households – including homes for formerly homeless families – just steps away from the Berryessa VTA transit hub and BART station. 🚆 And when we say “soon,” we mean it. RISE is coming online faster and for less, thanks to support from the Bay Area Housing Innovation Fund. This support also helped the project better leverage public funding sources, including the transformative Measure A affordable housing bond. Today’s celebration marks more than the start of construction – it demonstrates what’s possible when cross-sector partners work together with urgency and shared purpose to deliver the homes our community desperately needs. We're grateful to the deep network of partners making this moment possible, including the @SCCgov, @sjcityhousing, @VTA, @SCChousing, Housing Accelerator Fund, and @AffirmedHousing. Construction on Corso Apartments is officially underway! 🏗️✨ Located in a vibrant downtown Mountain View neighborhood, this site, formerly known as Lot 12, is being transformed into a 100% affordable housing development. Corso will soon provide 120 new transit-oriented homes for residents earning some of the lowest incomes in our community, including people experiencing homelessness. Today’s groundbreaking for Corso is not only a milestone years in the making — it reflects the deep commitment of our public and private partners to creating housing that ends and prevents homelessness. We’re grateful to the City of Mountain View, the County of Santa Clara, the Santa Clara County Housing Authority, Alta Housing, Related Housing, and many others for making this milestone possible. Preventing homelessness is one of the most effective & humane ways to address CA’s housing crisis. We were encouraged to hear so much discussion about it, including references to our very own local model, during the @nytimes California Gubernatorial Forum. Many older adults in our community are forced to make impossible trade-offs every month as a result.
