बेतरतीब दाढ़ी, सितारे लगी टोपी, मुंह में सिगार और पांव में ऊंचे जूते.. ये आदमी कई पीढ़ियों के ज़हन में है। भले नाम तुरंत याद ना आए तो भी कोई नहीं कह सकता कि मैंने इस आदमी को नहीं देखा। किसी का अंदाज़ा है कि ये कोई पॉप स्टार है तो किसी ने इसे अमेरिकी हीरो बताया। अमेरिका का सबसे बड़ा दुश्मन अमेरिकी यूथ में आज खूब पसंद किया जाता है। टीशर्ट, जूते, हेलेमेट, लाइटर.. किसी भी चीज़ पर आप उसके चेहरे का दीदार कर सकते हैं। जाने-अनजाने कई पीढ़ियां उससे वाकिफ रही हैं। ये चे है.. अर्नेस्तो चे ग्वेरा। अर्नेस्तो ‘चे’ ग्वेरा ने क्यूबा का ना होकर भी वहां हुई सशस्त्र क्रांति में अहम रोल निभाया था। फिदेल कास्त्रो ने सरकार बनाई तो दूसरे देशों से संबंध स्थापित करने का ज़िम्मा उन्हें ही सौंपा। नेहरू सरकार ने चे को विशेष आमंत्रण भेजा और 30 जून 1959 को वो दिल्ली के पालम हवाई अड्डे पहुंचे थे। किसी रॉकस्टार सरीखे दिखते चे की अगवानी प्रोटोकॉल ऑफिसर डी एस खोसला ने की थी। 1 जुलाई 1959 को चे और नेहरू की मुलाकात हुई औऱ उन्होंने साथ ही खाना खाया। वो दिल्ली के करीब पिलाना गांव भी गए थे। कमाल ये है कि चे की इस दौरे की जानकारी उन्हें चाहनेवालों को भी नहीं है। लोगों को ये बात हैरान करती है कि वो कभी भारत आए थे। यहां फाइल्स में उनका नाम अर्नेस्ट गेवारा दर्ज है। दिल्ली ही नहीं चे कलकत्ता भी गए और उसके अलावा कई और शहरों में भी। उनके इस दौरे की जानकारियां संजोने का काम किसी ने भी ठीक से नहीं किया। चे को फोटो खींचने का शौक था। उनके संग्रह में वो तस्वीरें भी हैं जो उन्होंने कलकत्ता की सड़कों पर खींची। कुछ उपलब्ध हैं। चे बंगाल के मुख्यमंत्री से भी मिले थे लेकिन ये बात फिर हैरान करती है कि वामपंथियों तक ने चे के दौरे पर कभी विस्तार से लिखना ज़रूरी नहीं समझा। खैर जब चे क्यूबा लौटे तो अपनी रिपोर्ट कास्त्रो को सौंपी। उसमें उन्होंने भारत के बारे में काफी कुछ लिखा है। सबसे अहम ये कि खुद हथियार लेकर क्रांति करनेवाले चे ने गांधी के सत्याग्रह के प्रति आदर का भाव प्रकट किया। ओम थानवी के एक लेख के मुताबिक चे ने रिपोर्ट में लिखा- ‘‘जनता के असंतोष के बड़े-बड़े शांतिपूर्ण प्रदर्शनों ने अंग्रेजी उपनिवेशवाद को आखिरकार उस देश को हमेशा के लिए छोड़ने को बाध्य कर दिया, जिसका शोषण वह पिछले डेढ़ सौ वर्षों से कर रहा था।’’ के पी भानुमति ने ऑल इंडिया रेडियो के लिए उनका साक्षात्कार दिल्ली के अशोका होटल में लिया था जहां वो ठहरे थे। चे ने तब उनसे कहा था - ‘आपके यहां गांधी हैं, दर्शन की एक पुरानी परंपरा है। हमारे लैटिन अमेरिका में दोनों नहीं हैं। इसलिए हमारी मन:स्थिति ही अलग ढंग से विकसित हुई है।’ कमाल देखिए कि चे ग्वेरा भारतीयों को युद्ध से दूर रहनेवाला मानते थे। उन्होंने रिपोर्ट में लिखा था - 'भारत में युद्ध शब्‍द वहां के जनमानस की आत्‍मा से इतना दूर है कि वह स्‍वतंत्रता आंदोलन के तनावपूर्ण दौर में भी उसके मन पर नहीं छाया।' अगर चे आज भारत का दौरा करते तो शायद भारत को लेकर उनकी बहुत सी राय बदल जाती। आज चे का जन्मदिन है। 14 जून 1928 को वो अर्जेंटीना में पैदा हुए थे। मानव को बंधन से आज़ाद कराने के लिए उन्होंने घर, पेशा और देश तक छोड़ दिए थे। आखिरकार बोलीविया में वहां की सरकार और सीआईए से लड़ते हुए वो अपने हिस्से की नौ गोलियां झेलकर मुक्त हो गए। मरते वक्त चे की उम्र महज़ 39 साल थी। #इतिइतिहास

Deeply shocking to read this official US statement, which contains absolutely no expression of regret or condolence for the loss of innocent Indian lives. How can a “friend” and strategic partner be so deeply insensitive? Why couldn’t a non-compliant commercial vessel have been stopped using other, non-lethal means? Is it not possible to disable a ship's propulsion or steering without firing missiles targeted to kill civilian crew members? Practically every merchant ship navigating these crucial waters has Indian crew on board. Are they all considered fair game for US missiles now? This approach is unacceptable and I hope @DrSJaishankar had said so to @marcorubio.
