BREAKING: Two women in Georgia are dead because Republican anti-abortion laws prevented them from receiving the care they needed in a timely fashion. This is the tragic price of MAGA theocracy. According to a new ProPublica report, 28-year-old Amber Nicole Thurman died from an infection that her hospital was capable of addressing — but unable to perform due to a Republican law banning the procedure. The doctors could have been prosecuted for violating the absurd law. "She’d taken abortion pills and encountered a rare complication; she had not expelled all of the fetal tissue from her body. She showed up at Piedmont Henry Hospital in need of a routine procedure to clear it from her uterus, called a dilation and curettage, or D&C," writes Kavitha Surana in ProPublica. "Thurman waited in pain in a hospital bed, worried about what would happen to her 6-year-old son, as doctors monitored her infection spreading, her blood pressure sinking and her organs beginning to fail. It took 20 hours for doctors to finally operate. By then, it was too late," explains Surana. An official state committee has concluded that she should not have died. The experts, which included ten doctors, ruled that it was "preventable" and the delay caused by the law had a "large" impact on the tragic outcome. ProPublica confirmed at least two women who died due to the lack of access to legal abortions, but the publication believes there are "almost certainly" other cases.
