When @vmochama pitched the idea of sending Black journalists to the @NABJ Convention in Chicago as a @ShaddCaryCentre project, it was easy to say yes. I went to Birmingham last year with institutional funding, as did @Pacinthe, who I went with. It was soul-filling for both of us.

So Wiarton Willie is dead. He died, um, more than 9 months ago, but we're just finding out now. There's a dark history with dead Willies over the years and alleged coverups. Two drowned in a flawed enclosure 20 years ago, Willie's old caretaker told me. cp24.com/news/wiarton-willie…
