I personally feel that the Markiplier/Iron Lung experiment more closely resembles the potential future of truly independent cinema than anything else this year. A future where creators can cut out the traditional middle men & self-release their own movies to success in theaters.

Hollywood is starting to change their system of talent selection. They are now making big bets on successful internet filmmakers. This is amazing news because the alternative was so political and cheesy and failing. It is a new dawn and I am so stoked about it.
I don't think it's necessarily "horror movies directed by YouTubers" that is the next big thing, it's more studios taking chances on young talent with fresh voices & original perspectives. Many of them are naturally creating on YouTube. Hollywood is paying attention. Make stuff!
Blumhouse-Atomic Monster has the #1 and #2 movies in the country this weekend, both made for almost no money. Theaters are packed. What a time to be making scary movies.
