On the cover of the April issue of GENETICS: An automated microinjection of Drosophila embryos by a computer vision-guided robot. Alegria et al. present a machine vision guided generalized robot that automates the process of microinjection in fruit fly and zebrafish embryos. 🧵⬇️

🚨 New pre-print alert!🚨 Led by the brilliant, twitter-less post-doc James Hope. We built a 🤖 exoskeleton for 🐭🐁 so we can study their 🧠's as they go around navigating their world. An e.g., imaging 1000s of neurons in the cortex when mice walk an 8-maze. A 🧵

We also trained a separate machine learning model and used the same robot to successfully inject zebrafish embryos and believe that this robotic system can be readily generalized to carry out automated microinjection in many other species. (9/10)

New paper! It’s absolutely wild what you see when studying bacteria using single-cell RNA-Seq! Unlike in eukaryotes, we found a genome-scale pattern of correlations among genes showing a strong dependency on global chromosomal locations. biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/… @AndrewPountain

What if you could image 🔬cells and then choose which ones to sequence 🧬? What if you could go back and image 🔬cells that you previously sequenced 🧬? Now you can 🔬 then 🧬 then 🔬 cells again with Light-Seq! nature.com/articles/s41592-0… Let’s dig in 🧵.

Our ADAR-based RNA sensors just came online! rdcu.be/cWX7o It allows you to express protein payloads in live cells in direct response to the presence of specific RNA transcripts. Also @EerikKaseniit, welcome to twitter.

As we work towards DNA-free circuits, we realized we could use some new RNA sensors in living cells. So we built RADAR biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/… Congrats to Eerik, @katznoa1, @NatalieSKolber, @claytoncalli, and thanks to our plant biologist neighbors, Diego, Will, and @Sattely_lab

Check out our new preprint on the after-life of intestinal cells: biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/…. Cells that are shed each day from our gut are thought to die immediately upon their dissociation from the tissue. Here we show that this is not the case (1/6).
