I fear a tsunami is coming and it will sweep away the Labor government and possibly remove the Greens from balance of power position and many on the left will scratch their heads and say “why”? That’s an awful the lack of self-awareness. It is not limited to the Greens; Labor and the Libs are also prone to the same blindness. The tsunami is the resentment and alienation felt by so many, especially the working class. It is not fascism. Many people, especially those in outer suburbs and regional areas are suffering financial hardship, lack of services and bureaucratic authoritarianism. They could probably put up with all this but, on top of that, they perceive that an elite - the professional/managerial class - has all the economic and political clout that they lack and a woke culture they despise. There are probably other aspects to this uprising I haven’t mentioned and that a political sociologist should investigate but those factors I have mentioned, on their own, go a long way to explaining why One Nation, on 31% is the most popular party in the country. Dissatisfied Australians are flocking out of the major parties to One Nation, not the Greens. Why is that? It is not Gina Reinhardt and Murdoch. One Nation has been the repository of every major resentment in the country and I fear their rise hasn’t finished yet. After this is all over the left of politics is going to have to do some serious reflection.

Let's examine some of the polling data as it relates to migration to Australia. 45% of Australians think migration is "generally negative" for the country (Essential April 2026). 79% of Australians want net migration at a level of 100k per year or less, including 75% of migrants (Fox & Hedgehog March 2026). 60% of Australians say there are "too many migrants in Australia", including 59% of migrants (Fox & Hedgehog March 2026). This view is also held by a majority of non-citizens who have an opinion on the issue either way. Policymakers have made an absolute mess.

Things we tolerate in Australia that we probably shouldn’t: - international student visa puppy mill operators - infinity immigrants being imported to artificially juice GDP - ‘diversity is our strength’ catch cry unsupported by any basis or evidence other than ‘oh but what about the food’ - the taxpayer rort that is the NDIS in its current form - inept and incompetent politicians That’s just a few, I’m sure it could be a much longer list

Cookers are complaining about our preferential voting system because ON got 19% in SA but only 1-4 seats. Yet in FPTP voting USA only 2% of Senate and 0.23% of House seats are non-major party. In preferential voting Australia those numbers are 31.6% Senate and 9.3% House.

The fact that the Coalition can't even commit to cutting migration in the midst of a global crisis, an economic downturn at a household level and a massive housing shortage speaks volumes about their true priorities.

Election: I think Labor’s vote last election was lower than it should have been, and Liberal too high. Scomo was a slimebag who massively screwed up the bushfire/covid response, giving billions to profitable companies which is a huge part of why there was an inflation crisis.

The electorate was still skittish on Labor, and they only just beat an awful government. Now after a term of Labor, the sky didn’t fall in even with inflation, I think they have gotten the swing they deserved last time, the LNP have gotten the swing away they deserved last time.

I think it was delayed, similar to Labor getting booted in 1996 was a delayed response to the 1991 recession, that really should have had them voted out in 93. Keating pulled one out of the hat, but the public got him next time.

The greens won’t touch immigration because they don’t want to seem racist. Labor want touch immigration because they’re close to the universities. Libs won’t touch immigration because they’re tied to big business and the property council.

1984 - Australia's most popular new car was the Ford Falcon, weighing in at 1,300 kg. 2024 - Forty years later, Australia's most popular new car was still a Ford, but this time its the Ford Ranger, weighing in at 2,250kg. "Why are roads falling apart these days???"
