Regarding Maths P. 1 today. Doesn't do much to break the stereotype of Maths in schools. @Independent_ie @IrishTimesEdu_ @rtenews @jenhoganjourno
Replying to @ImtaBrendan
Students in tears where I was supervising. Felt so sorry for them. What's the point in setting a demanding syllabus in the first place with the objective then of "catching them out" on exam day. Surely the objective should be to assess their applications over the two years.

Schools sold an expensive panacea by tech companies. Devices not charged, broken, digital illiteracy, games, Internet distraction, messaging each other, just some of the barriers to teaching & Learning. @rtenews @IrishTimesEdu rte.ie/news/2026/0524/157493…

Excellent English Meet 2026 at @sccdublin this evening. English teachers sharing effective practice from the own context. Excellent evening of professional learning and collaboration. Thanks @sccenglish for organising, your warm welcome and your insightful presentation.

Interestingly there's only been two 18-17 finishes since the famous Taylor Davis 85 final. Could be a third tonight. @Snooker_Chat @BBCSnooker @WeAreWST #WuMurphy

One thing I didn't get from my Grandpa was their lovely penmanship. Fascinating insight #census1926

Supervising Easter study this week. My conclusion, parents/guardians - being in study for 6hrs is very different to studying for 6 hrs. Students do not need their phones, believe me.
Put your phone in another room when you need to think. In a randomized study, students whose phones were physically removed during a lecture scored ~16% higher (whether phone use was allowed or not).

This is an excellent thread. How to maximise your time. . .
You’re bored because you’re not doing side quests, man. Life is more than just working and then throwing yourself into bed doing nothing. Here are 50 side quests to complete:

Last week they had a jersey switch for colourblind awareness. This week English and French jerseys are borderline inseperable. 🧐 @ballsdotie @SixNationsRugby @RTEsport

3.5 hours on the M50 to drive from Dublin to Kildare this morning. All my anxiety for missing work was shifted to this driver though! 😱 @M50Dublin @LiveDrive

Excellent article @C_Hendrick Particularly pertinent for the AAC in the Leaving Cert where 'independent' learning underpins this component. Agree that independent learning, without appropriate instruction and guidance, does not support one becoming an independent learner.
Discovery learning works well for students who least need it. link in reply ⬇️

Brian was an invited guest at @mayfieldcs Gradam Awards in 2003 @KieranGolden4 A gentleman with encouraging words for all of us. Focus on your ability to do something as opposed to focusing on what you can't do will stand to all of you. Still relevant in 2026. RIP Brian.
I am deeply saddened to learn of Brian Crowley’s passing. A poll topper in 5 successive elections, he served the Fianna Fáil party & the country with distinction in the European Parliament for 20 years while overcoming significant personal challenge. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.

The Christmas Season certainly showcases a vast array of great (& not so great) films. One thing is for sure - Robin Williams was an absolute genius & one of the finest versatile actors in film history. (Hook, Good Will Hunting, Dead Poets' Society and Mrs. DF). Merry Xmas.

I must say that the public transport in Basel, Switzerland is one of the most efficient systems I have ever seen/expereinced. Trams for the centre and outskirts of the city, buses primarily on the outskirts. Simple city planning.
