Paraguay beat Brazil and Argentina and had the best defensive record in South American World Cup qualifying.
They just lost 4-1 to the USMNT in their opening match at the 2026 World Cup final.

1) #USMNT First & most importantly, excellent win behind an unbelievably great first half. Hugely entertaining.
2) Nice to get a goal & a good one by Reyna, in the second half. Squandered a ton of good opportunities.
3) Defending was fine, but a bunch of errors on the goal.
4) A LOT of players were individually outstanding.
5) Update on Pulisic is key. I awesome he's fine.
6) Mauricio Pochettino is The Man.

Tim Ream conceded a free-kick and was shown a yellow card for his 'challenge' on Paraguay's Miguel Almiron.
After the free-kick was taken, referee Danny Makkelie was sent to the screen by the VAR and overturned his decision, rescinding Ream's caution and instead booking Almiron, who had clearly dived.
The first VAR intervention for mistaken identity at the World Cup.
