Maryland is now moving forward with redistricting changes! Glad to see it. And when we take back Congress, we must ban middecade redistricting & gerrymandering.
Maryland Sen. President Bill Ferguson is considering a constitutional amendment that could pave the way for a further Democrat-leaning congressional map. But the odds of that map being enacted before the November 2026 election remain unlikely. wypr.org/wypr-news/2026-05-2…

Breaking: Gov. Kemp has called state lawmakers for a special session on June 17 to reshape both how Georgians vote and to redraw the state’s political maps after last month’s U.S. Supreme Court decision for the 2028 election. #gapol ajc.com/politics/2026/05/gov…

🚨 MAJOR VICTORY AT THE U.S. SUPREME COURT 🚨 For too long, unelected federal judges have had more say over Alabama's elections than Alabama's voters. That ended today. My job: put the Legislature in position to draw a map that favors Republicans 7-0. Done. ✅🏛️ 🇺🇸

Supreme Court today: We'll allow Alabama Republicans to change the congressional map in the primary election even though absentee voting has literally already started Supreme Court last December: November's too late to strike down the GOP's map in TX's March primary election!!

Note that unlike LA, AL was subject to an *intentional discrimination claim*, which the Court in Callais purported to say was still actionable under Section 2. There is now officially nothing left of Section 2 if what AL did (and how it did it) is permissible.
🚨NEW: The Supreme Court has vacated the second Milligan decision and remanded the case to the district court for reconsideration in light of Callais. supremecourt.gov/DocketPDF/2…

From a couple of hours ago. This is where redistricting ends up. Republicans, after looking like they would lose or draw the redistricting war, have won it. Because Republicans can do whatever the hell they want in red states, and Democrats have to tie their shoes in handcuffs in blue states.
New GOP friendly maps in AL/TN/LA/FL can help R’s a bit, but they can’t change the political environment. Even if those maps pass legal scrutiny AND Dem map in VA gets struck down, most realistic scenario is that R’s net 4-5 seats from redistricting. cookpolitical.com/analysis/h…

There's little concern about the courts in Maryland if we amend the state constitution. We have a few weeks left to add questions like this to the November ballot in #MDpolitics
Virginia's Democrat-friendly congressional map just got struck down in court. Does that mean for Maryland: A) more urgency to redistrict here to gain 1 Dem seat? B) reinforce concerns that a gerrymandered map here also could get struck down? Tell me what you think.

One Maryland lawmaker is renewing his push for redistricting. Sen. Arthur Ellis, who is running for Congress, says there needs to be a special session to evaluate the maps. Ellis points to Voting Rights Act ruling from SCOTUS, and says there's now "urgency" to act.

My March predictions came true. There's still time in #MDpolitics to go into special session & add questions to the November ballot.
The Maryland House is advancing a redistricting compromise to simply clarify & reiterate the longstanding interpretation that MD's constitution only regulates state election lines. There will be no new congressional map in 2026 -- but why wouldn't we fix the Senate's key concern?
