My thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected by last night’s powerful storms and tornadoes that swept across Illinois.
These severe weather events caused significant damage in many of our communities. Thank you to our brave first responders who acted swiftly — digging through rubble, responding to gas leaks, and helping neighbors in the midst of chaos. Your courage saves lives.
In Congress, I will work to ensure the National Weather Service is fully funded and our warning systems stay cutting-edge. Early alerts are critical — they give families time to seek shelter, keep our communities safe, and allow first responders to know exactly what’s coming every step of the way. Illinois also needs the modern emergency equipment and resources to prepare for and recover from these increasing threats.
We will not leave our families or communities vulnerable.
