The project significantly expands the existing facility and brings it in line with international best practice. It is a great example of what can be done by Public Works - and which we will replicate nationwide through our renewed determination and strategic interventions. This afternoon, I tabled the Department of Public Works & Infrastructure’s Budget Vote in the NCOP. Our task is clear: to turn Public Works & Infrastructure into an economic delivery unit for South Africa. That means unlocking infrastructure investment, reforming EPWP, cleaning up the PMTE, using public assets for public good, and ensuring that infrastructure is delivered where people live. We are making progress: ISA is strengthening the project pipeline, the IDT is being stabilised, 52 fraudulent contractors have been removed from the CIDB register, and over 46 state-owned properties have been made available for shelters and skills centres. But we will not ignore the failures that hold delivery back. We will continue confronting irregular leases, weak systems, EPWP abuse, underused assets and poor consequence management. Public Works must protect public money, unlock public assets, support service delivery and drive economic growth. That is how we will turn South Africa into a construction site. #LetsBuildSA 💙🇿🇦

Today, ahead of the DPWI Budget Vote in the NCOP, I briefed the media on the reform agenda underway in Public Works & Infrastructure. The agenda of reform is irreversible. We are confronting wrongdoing, including PMTE leasing failures, ghost employees, EPWP abuse, the PSA Oxygen Plant tender and Telkom Towers. But accountability is also beginning to unlock delivery. Infrastructure South Africa will open Bid Window III on 27 July as part of our R600 million commitment to project preparation support, while the IDT’s order book has grown by R2 billion to R6 billion in confirmed projects. The IDT has also tripled its cash on hand from near bankruptcy and completed 279 social infrastructure facilities in 2025/26, exceeding its target of 244. We are cleaning up while building what comes next. #LetsBuildSA 💙🇿🇦

Today I visited His Majesty King Misuzulu kaZwelithini at Emashobeni Royal Palace, together with our DA leaders, to affirm the DA’s respect for the institution of traditional leadership and its important role in the lives of millions of South Africans. 🇿🇦 My message was that as the DA grows across the country, we will always continue this relationship of respect. Also, that the best way to honour the Zulu nation is to build a country that truly works - where young people can find work, families can live in safety, and children can receive a quality education. That is what the DA will do.

Fitch’s upgrade of South Africa from BB- to BB shows that the responsible economic path pursued at Treasury is delivering results. Our path of fiscal discipline means lower borrowing costs, slower debt growth and ultimately more resources for public services and economic growth.

This morning, I joined EPWP participants and community members in Buffalo City Municipality in the Eastern Cape for another leg of our EPWP Listening Tour. I heard directly from residents about the importance of EPWP, but also concerns around fairness, gatekeeping, political interference, and the need for public employment to lead to real skills and future opportunities. That is exactly why we launched the Working on Infrastructure pilot programme: to connect public employment to infrastructure repair and maintenance, transparent recruitment, workplace learning, and pathways into jobs, enterprise or further training. Through these EPWP Listening Tours, we will continue reforming the programme so that it serves the many, not the few. #LetsBuildSA 💙🇿🇦

Yesterday afternoon, I was honoured to join United States Ambassador Bozell at the U.S. Consulate in Cape Town for the 250th anniversary celebration of the independence of the United States of America. During my address, I reflected on the friendship between South Africa and the United States, built through people, culture, trade, investment, education, science and diplomacy. Happy 250th anniversary to the people of the United States of America. 🇿🇦🇺🇸

What a wonderful milestone: “This is all possible due to the vaccine programme that @jsteenhuisen has implemented…We can only thank you for your dedication.” Our beef exports are starting to flow again, as tangible proof of the rapid progress being made against FMD! 🇿🇦

We are now moving onto bid window 3 for project preparation funding. A brand new initiative of the 7th administration to fund and develop a growing project pipeline of infrastructure development across SA. I am so proud of what we are doing in @infraSA_ !
