Operation Siyahlola || Today, the Deputy Minister of Public Works and Infrastructure, @sziks , conducted an Operation Siyahlola oversight visit to the uMlazi Magistrate’s Court in KwaZulu-Natal. He was accompanied by the Deputy Director-General for Construction Project Management (CPM), Ms Luyanda Kafile, as well as the Durban Regional Office project team led by Regional Manager, Nkosi Vilakazi. Representing the eThekwini Municipality Mayor was Councillor Ntando Khuzwayo. During the visit, the Deputy Minister inspected the uMlazi Magistrate’s Court precinct, which comprises existing court facilities and newly constructed modern courtrooms. The project, which experienced delays during implementation, has now reached 90% completion. Once finalised, the upgraded facility will be handed over to the Department of Justice and Constitutional Development (DOJ&CD), strengthening access to quality justice infrastructure and enhancing service delivery for the people of uMlazi and surrounding communities. #OperationSiyahlola #InfrastructureDevelopment #ServiceDelivery #PublicWorksAndInfrastructure #GovernmentAtWork

#Youthmonth2026 || @KZNPublicWorks Launched Youth Empowerment Programme and Learnerships The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Public Works and Infrastructure (KZN DPWI), led by Martin Meyer, launched a Youth Empowerment Programme under the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) today in Pietermaritzburg. A total of 60 young people will be equipped with practical skills through three learnership streams: Clothing, Textile, Footwear and Leather (15 participants), Furniture Making – Upholstery (15 participants), and IT Systems Support (30 participants). The initiative aims to strengthen youth skills, improve employability, and advance economic participation in the province. MEC Meyer highlighted the importance of skills development in tackling unemployment, while EPWP leadership encouraged participants to embrace the opportunity as a pathway to a sustainable future. MEDIA BRIEFING || Today, Minister @DeanMacpherson briefed the media ahead of the DPWI Budget Vote in the NCOP. The briefing focused on priority investigations, infrastructure delivery and employment creation initiatives through the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) across the country. The Minister highlighted progress in advancing infrastructure development, noting that Infrastructure South Africa will open Bid Window III on 27 July as part of a R600 million commitment to project preparation support. He further reported that the Independent Development Trust (IDT) has expanded its confirmed project portfolio by R2 billion to R6 billion and delivered 279 social infrastructure facilities during the 2025/26 financial year, surpassing its target of 244 facilities.
