@KZNPublicWorks Launched Youth Empowerment Programme and Learnerships
The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Public Works and Infrastructure (KZN DPWI), led by Martin Meyer, launched a Youth Empowerment Programme under the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) today in Pietermaritzburg.
A total of 60 young people will be equipped with practical skills through three learnership streams: Clothing, Textile, Footwear and Leather (15 participants), Furniture Making – Upholstery (15 participants), and IT Systems Support (30 participants).
The initiative aims to strengthen youth skills, improve employability, and advance economic participation in the province.
MEC Meyer highlighted the importance of skills development in tackling unemployment, while EPWP leadership encouraged participants to embrace the opportunity as a pathway to a sustainable future.
Mr Sduduzo Simelane, EPWP KwaZulu-Natal Programme Manager, wished the learners well on their new journey and urged them to seize this opportunity with both hands, emphasizing that the future of the country is in the hands of its young people.
