That’s nearing the end of our week in The Outer Hebrides, best holiday for beautiful beaches, incredible scenery, wildlife spotting and of course keeping the dogs entertained!
1/3 I have been reading about a previous meeting of farmers which was a great demonstration organised by @NFUtweets that has similarities to this week. @ProagriLtd@loosecollie@FarmersWeekly
2/3 A huge gathering that was held in 1930; located at Parker’s Piece in Cambridge during the start of what became The Great Depression.
It was described by Adrian Bell, a young farmer, in his 1931 book Silver Ley as a few exerts and a photo of the time show:
3/3 Led by my Great Grandmother Annie’s brother, Captain Ted Morris, a Sawbridgeworth farmer who spoke to the gathering while he was @NFUtweets president that year.
It was followed by a change in government and nationalisation of industries…. #farming#godspeedtheplough
This little box tells a #BonfireNight tale - given to my grandfather 80 years ago for pulling a man out of a car crash outside Park Farm at Slip End, Baldock, he drove him home to his mother, who had lost her 3 other sons in #WW2 Turned out it was the local @Conservatives MP !!
