Oh my God, fought by ‘the poor and unemployed’? NO. Fought by models, bar tenders, students, librarians… soldiers are drafted and supply their own weapons and armour. Their own boots. FFS.
I am a current @UCU rep. I have also been hosting a Ukrainian couple in our family home for over a year now. Their friends, ordinary men and women, have been killed defending their country. How can this be my union? I am reconsidering my position tonight.

Just applied for strike pay. Never claimed from the pot before but at the max repay rate will get less than 1/3 back of what I've lost, so not feeling guilty about it. Took less than 5 mins. #ucuRISING
Hello, academic, editing, & publishing friends:
Would any of you be interested in lending your expertise to proof-reading some cover letters and CVs for refugees who have been granted leave to remain?

Excellent 🧵. Trust me, we do all we can & much more than we are trained to because destitute MH services don’t prioritise students. They know that as human beings we will pick up the slack. I once sat with a suicidal student for 5 hrs because the crisis team couldn’t get to her.
One of the many reasons why our workloads are heavier than people assume. We listen to sexual assault disclosures, triage panic attacks, let students cry inconsolably in our offices. Of course we ‘signpost’ but it’s not in our nature to abandon a young person in acute distress.
