Looks like Governor's power play is not working. Thank you CA Legislature, for keeping tunnel mischief out of State Budget. @SenMcNerney @AsmLoriDWilson @Cabaldon4CA @RhodesiaRansom @ilike_mike @RobertRivas_CA and others! #NoDeltaTunnel sbud.senate.ca.gov/system/fi…

Our latest Lookout video looks at the geography of Chinook Salmon and steelhead trout in California's Central Valley, with a focus on Spring Run Salmon on Butte Creek, near Chico. We talk about obstacles the fish face in returning to much of their historic habitats, and about work which has been done to prevent their extinction. We also talk about why we are building a large sculpture of Butte Creek Spring Run Chinook Salmon. buff.ly/41qYywD

#SMH Trump’s emergency water order responsible for water dump from Tulare County lakes Tulare County water managers were perplexed and frustrated, noting both physical and legal barriers that make it virtually impossible for Tulare County river water to be used for southern California fires. For now, water managers are capturing flows in recharge basins, Eric Limas, General Manager for the Lower Tule River and Pixley irrigation districts, wrote in a text. “I have no idea if this is the new norm for operations or not. I certainly hope not.” tinyurl.com/yy8tbypv by @LoisHenry via @SJVWater

It’s insane. He ordered release at 5500 cu ft until a lot of Republican panic calls got it to release at 1500 cu ft. The release he ordered is not only wasteful and not needed by farmers, but there’s no way for that water to get anywhere near LA.

In normal California units is about 16,000 acre-feet, enough to irrigate about 3,000 acres. Alas, this water would have been released to serve these same acres later, in the season when useful for the irrigation season. No relevance for fires. See: sjvwater.org/decision-to-dum…
Photo of beautiful water flow that I just opened in California. Today, 1.6 billion gallons and, in 3 days, it will be 5.2 billion gallons. Everybody should be happy about this long fought Victory! I only wish they listened to me six years ago – There would have been no fire!

DCA has identified a way to construct 45 miles of tunnel with only 2 launch sites, each including 2 launch shafts, that are strategically located to minimize impacts. Tunnel Boring Machines would launch in both directions from each launch shaft site. More: bit.ly/3KzNFQ9

Really, a "priority"? Cuz Tunnel EIR identifies 5 Significant and Unavoidable impacts on Cultural Resources. And would further imperil salmon runs and other fish by diverting freshwater from #Sacramento River. cadwr.app.box.com/s/viirli4p… (pdf pp. 61-62) #NoDeltaTunnel #CAwx

FACT: Tribal engagement has been, and will continue to be, a priority in Delta Conveyance Project planning and implementation. DWR initially reached out to more than 120 Tribes and received responses from 13 interested in participating in the consultation process. These Tribal engagement efforts played an important role in identifying and evaluating alternatives, potential impacts on Tribal cultural resources and helped DWR develop robust and responsive mitigation measures to avoid or reduce these impacts. The Biden and Newsom administrations will soon adopt new rules for California’s major water delivery systems that will determine how much water may be pumped while providing protections for imperiled fish species. The proposed changes are controversial. latimes.com/environment/stor…
