My book Jugaad Yatra - The Indian Art of Problem Solving is published this week. It explores a uniquely Indian way of thinking and how it finds brilliant new solutions but also exacerbates some of India’s worst problems: amazon.in/Jugaad-Yatra-Explo… JugaadYatra #JugaadNation

I've seen and reported many child sex abuse scandals, but I don't remember the far-right ever caring about them. The perps - cops, care home heads, social workers, private school masters - were too white. Abuse isn't about race, it's mainly about men. #PakistaniGroomingGangs

Fabulous tribute to a true working class hero. Where would Brown and Blair have been without Prescott?
John Prescott was one of the great figures of our political era—passionate, loyal, and full of life. I will never forget our many lively exchanges across the despatch box. John was a formidable debater, unflinching in his commitment to his values, and he had a unique ability to speak directly to the concerns of the people he represented. It was a point of pride for both of us that we hailed from Rotherham; although it shaped us in different ways, we shared a certain bluntness in our exchanges—though in true Yorkshire fashion, John usually got straight to the point faster than I did! John’s legacy as a voice for working people and a relentless advocate for Labour will endure. My thoughts are with his family and loved ones at this very sad time.

Don’t forget what they have done. Partygate, the Covid contracts, the lies, the kickbacks. The cronyism, the failure to invest, the division and scapegoating, the trips to the bookies, the Liz Truss mini-budget, the decimation of your public services. Don’t forget any of it. 🧾

Purely as a piece of communication, this picture of Keir and Victoria Starmer at Taylor Swift speaks a million words. His rivals look angry, old, unhealthy, flabby, tired…. Success is about the soul and people respond to soul….. you can see it in this photo….

Some big truth bombs here from ⁦@praveenswami⁩ but for British soldiers/people it was a fight for survival and for our way of life - our options were fight or live under Nazi rule. My Dad was born into it and the memory of the Blitz never left him. theprint.in/opinion/security…

🧵/ The government doesn’t want you to know it, but it is currently conducting a massive, un-evidenced, cost-cutting experiment in the NHS, replacing doctors with so-called physician associates. 1/n theguardian.com/society/2024…

Today in a side room in parliament the government pushed ahead with policy to increase the number of, and role of, Physician Associates PAs are not doctors, nor GPs, and yet they are being phased in as doctor substitutes and GP substitutes - read that again This will create a two tier system of health service, those seen by qualified doctors and GPs, and those seen by PAs We desperately need more doctors and GPs, but instead of training and hiring them (Brexit has made it difficult to bring more in), this Conservative government is watering down the quality of service being offered by the NHS In 2010 the Conservatives inherited the NHS as one of the world's best health services. Since then they have underfunded the NHS, outsourced so we pay more for the same service, and now they're watering down the quality of staff. Shame on anyone who still votes for the Conservative party, because they are destroying our NHS

Hey @FifeCouncil @FCQuestion, do you compost/chip discarded Christmas trees for mulch or do they go in landfill?

This is sickening and alarming that no-one challenged her. ✊
A little Sunday afternoon story. Two weeks ago I had quite major surgery. Today I got on a bus for the first time since then. With my blue badge. It was very full and I found myself standing initially near the priority seats holding on firmly to the hand rails.

The paedophile journalist #PeterWilby was spared jail despite consuming images of children being raped. #Phoebe Plummer was trying to stop the fossil fuels that will burn us all, but will serve 6 months?! One is a hero, the other an abomination but judges on another value system.

Phoebe Plummer, 22, given 6 months jail for protesting against new oil and gas. One of six Just Stop Oil supporters imprisoned in the last 14 days. There’s your ‘two tier policing’.

This is a must-read: Armies sometimes get it catastrophically wrong, terrorists sometimes tell the truth. By the time we learn who really bombed #Gaza's Al-Ahli Hospital people will already have made up their minds and a street-truth will be widely believed.

I agree. The biggest barrier to train travel isn't speed but cost and comfort. I'm on an inter city train now, most toilets are out of order, carriages reduced and aisles blocked with standing passengers. HS2 savings shd go on slashing fares and improving service.
'In any case, why do we need 200mph trains? Great Britain, whose mainland is just 80,000 square miles, is far smaller than France (212,000 sq m), Spain (195,000) and Germany (138,000). The distance from London to Birmingham is 120 miles. The distance from Paris to France's equivalent second city, Lyon, is 243 miles.mol.im/a/12567891 via @MailOnline
