Land identification has begun for the proposed Malda International Airport, with district officials and airport authorities surveying multiple locations, including Gazole, Habibpur, Bamongola, Chanchal, and adjoining areas. The project aims to improve connectivity across northern districts of Bengal while serving nearby Bihar and Bangladesh-border regions. Officials believe the airport could emerge as a major logistics and trade gateway in eastern India.
Malda, strategically located along NH-12, is home to a population of over 40 lakh across the district and nearby regions. The district is one of India’s largest mango-producing belts and a key silk and agricultural hub.
