It’s hard to be kind when every major institution is built on ableism and white supremacy plus cultural bias that reinforces the message that being disabled is a fate worse than death
@Dannythefink: The bill is careful & thoughtful & will allow terminally ill people to die with greater dignity & control. Some people don’t want that right or don’t think others should have it. I do. & we will all just have to be kind to each other about our difference of opinion
Friendly reminder to the British media that the next week is not the only time to hire disabled journalists. Disabled people are for life, not just for the Paralympics.
Me, an autistic person, 1-hour post-surgery: Hi nurse, I'm in so much pain.
Nurse: Ok *leaves*
Me: Has to get out of bed to pee and ends up sobbing from said pain.
Nurse: *rushes in* OMG you should have told us you were in pain! *immediately gives me meds* #Autism#access
🚨BREAKING NEWS🚨
Charity for Disabled children funnelling over 40% of its funds to right-wing think-tanks.
Utterly shocking - an example of what happens when disability organisations aren't run by us, for us, with lived-experience at the forefront.

I've seen a lot of discourse on the fact wheelchair users are given priority over buggies on buses in the UK. What's wild is before disabled folk fought for the space on the bus, there wasn't a space for buggies at all, just a blue bin to put a folded buggy in.
We can advocate and petition for two spaces to ensure everyone is happy but you can't argue an entitlement to a space that only exists because disabled people protested?!
In person, I'm lucky to have only had a couple bad experiences with this but I think people don't consider how stressful it is to rock up at the bus stop and see a buggy in the space and ask them to move so you can get to your destination on time. #accessibletravel#disabled
Calling all white disabled people: it's not ok to compare the progession of our rights to Black and POC rights. Often when I see these comments made it's alluding to the idea that POC are now equal and racism results in outrage and ableism doesn't. It's not ok.
My disability is not something I have to overcome, it's part of me, it means I can do some things and I can't do others and that is ok.

I am currently reading Scapegoat by @KatharineQ, it's absolutely wild how historical views of disabled people are still so embedded in our society today.
From seeing disabled people as something to sacrifice to the language still used around disability.
Peter Dinklage has not 'taken jobs' away from people with dwarfism because he spoke out on the horrid representations of snow white.
Mega-corporations (like Disney) have taken jobs away from people with dwarfism by only casting them in roles that add to harmful stereotypes.
Also, can we talk about the fact that @Disney, instead of coming up with another solution, just CGI'd people with dwarfism? So THEY took away jobs and then THEY still reinforced harmful stereotypes? #disability#representation
When I was learning to wheelie over curbs when I got my wheelchair people would look panicked as they saw me trying and my partner stood watching.
They'd run over 'DO YOU NEED HELP!'
It would always make us laugh, do they think my partner watches me struggle?

Just wanted to share quickly how lovely yesterday felt in Southport; a total contrast to the night before. 🧵
The mosque and people’s garden walls were rebuilt by builders and bricklayers volunteering their time and labour:
On the Eurostar people were sat in our seats, my partner asked staff to ask the people to move to their own seats.
She looked me up and down then turned to my partner in disbelief 'but they're in a wheelchair.' As if perhaps my partner had not realised...

ALT A picture of Helen Heckety's poetry book 'The Underlook' Held up by a white hand. The background is the sky with clouds and the tops of trees. The book cover is a picture of a person with a cloud covering their head.
If you want to know why I, a disabled person, would opt to travel round Europe only via train instead of flying I really recommend you watching 'Sophie Morgan's Fight To Fly.' #fighttofly@Channel4#accessibletravel
