the cheapest hedge in finance right now is a prediction market contract. $50 protects a $10K portfolio against a specific event. no options chain, no broker, no greeks. just pick the outcome that hurts your portfolio and buy the other side

Very significant copper trades took place on the LME on Friday, with buyers purchasing major volumes for delivery to the USA and China. The trades were the largest withdrawal seen on the LME since 2013. Physical buying of this size is incredibly bullish. Trafigura was behind the LME orders, withdrawing >51,000 tonnes of copper worth hundreds of millions of dollars. 30,000 tonnes of that copper is for delivery to the US, where prices have widened to a premium of >$650 per tonne of copper, compared with the LME. Chart below shows the COMEX copper price premium ($ per tonne) over the LME.

Not a single purchaser of crude oil in the world asks nor cares about the carbon footprint of the barrel, instead is 100% focused on accessibility, affordability, and reliability. I do not see how we overcome this massive misunderstanding which underpins all ongoing negotiations.

IRAN-RUSSIA ALLIANCE DEEPENS AS ARAGHCHI VISITS MOSCOW Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi is in Russia for talks as military and political cooperation with Moscow deepens amid shared tensions with the U.S. Since Russia’s war in Ukraine, the two countries have expanded ties, including drone exchanges and reported intelligence and military support. Iran’s Shahed drones are used in Ukraine, while Western officials say Russia has provided Tehran with satellite data and targeting assistance. The Kremlin called the meeting with Vladimir Putin “hard to overstate” in importance given Middle East tensions. Moscow benefits from the conflict via higher oil prices and pressure on Western arms supplies, but risks instability in its key regional partner, Iran.

ABSOLUTELY MUST WATCH CLIP... Deputy US Trade Representative Rick Switzer on USMCA "They can have a weak economy that is underperforming and not doing well, and Carney can feel superior." "Or they can have an economy that participates with as a partner of the U.S. economy." "And Carney can do what a grownup should do, which is figure out." "...It's my job as a person who's supposed to protect Canadian jobs and Canadian citizens and the Canadian economy to not let my ego and my feelings dictate what's best for my own economy." Q "Do you think this will have implications for the USMCA?" Switzer "Yeah, of course it is..." "Look, was Ambassador Greer in Canada? Did he meet with Carney? No." "...The grownups are in the room talking because there's a grown up in the presidency in leadership there, and I would argue there's not a grown up in Canada in charge there." "You don't go out of your way to antagonize the leader of the country that you are absolutely existentially tied to." "It's just political malpractice." @markjcarney
