4 years after terrible loss (two -80C freezers and back-ups) of almost all of our collection of regular and mutant human, Drosophila, E. Coli and Plasmodium cells, and a big hustle with insurance we are going to publish first manuscript that was hindered by this loss.
Additional 2 manuscripts are on the way as well. Lot of repeated experiments, use of additional resources and lot of lost nerves over the last 4 years that could have been avoided.
This was a valuable collection of mutant cell lines as well as CRISPR/Cas9 engineered lines with endogenously tagged-RBPs, translation factors, ribosomal proteins and other proteins. More than 50% of engineered Plasmodium cells are still not recovered.
My suggestion to everyone is to keep some of your most valuable cell lines and back-ups in your collaborators freezers or at least in different buildings or towns.
