How can the world afford to help refugees? The real question is: how can the world afford not to? bit.ly/1SGdScR #RefugeesWelcome

This is a thoughtful post, worth heeding. This said, I don't remember your time in medical school for that "fail". I remember the way you cared for and spoke about your patients, no matter how vulnerable: with respect and humanity. Colossally impressive.
Another year celebrating the anniversary of the most colossal fail in my career, and the reminder that, with hard work and the right attitude, things can eventually turn out amazing. Sending much love and positive energy to anyone struggling right now. #MATCHDAY

Welcome to the foxhouse, little hens. Don't you worry about a thing. The UAE has not denied this, by the way. They are just banking on outrage fatigue. theguardian.com/environment/…

100% correct. Thank you @chelliepingree for bringing not only humanity but also common sense win-win to this issue. People come to the US eager and able to work hard, at jobs most Americans are not willing to do. This helps employers, customers, and the economy.
House Republicans: Our immigration system is broken! Me: I agree, let’s pass my bipartisan bill to help asylum seekers join the workforce faster! Republicans: Nah, we’ll just waste time on a partisan bill that does nothing to address the immigration crisis or help asylum seekers

Republicans don't want you to know that scrapping the cap on Social Security payroll tax (which lets the rich get away with underpaying) could essentially eliminate its solvency gap. They'd rather have a “fiscal commission” to quietly gut Social Security. Because of course.

I can understand anger, unfathomable grief, and even thirst for revenge; not approve or recommend, but understand. But I find it much harder to fathom the need of people to deny the suffering, and with it the humanity, of the "other side". bbc.com/news/world-middle-ea…

Denial has always been the way some people deal with suffering and evil, as Armenians, Jews, and Tutsis well know. Social media is an opportunity for real-time documentation, but also real-time denial, as aptly documented in this @mariannaspring piece bbc.com/news/world-middle-ea…

Indeed. A few observations: 1. Kudos to the lawyer who convinced her to plead. Negotiating with a mentally ill person is difficult. 2. In what universe is $2,700 adequate "restitution" for making credible efforts to torch our democracy? 1/2
Well, well, well. The Kraken has cracked. Conspiracy peddler and avid Dr. Pepper consuming wacko Sidney Powell has pled guilty in the GA RICO case to six counts of conspiracy to interfere with performance of election duties. She is likely getting a deal with prosecutors in exchange for testimony against Donald Trump. It’s a full on Heinz-57 day at Mar-a-Lago!

3. Can't wait to read the apology letter. I hope there's a provision she has to write it herself, not have it done by her attorney 4. Does the deal also involve changing her twitter bio? Because as of a few seconds ago that didn't show much repentance 2/2

And please share this. Regardless what anyone thinks, nobody will exterminate anybody. When this is all over, be it in 20, 50, or 100 years, there will be Jews and Palestinians - our children - living in the Holy Land. May it be in peace, love & equality. x.com/iyad_elbaghdadi/status…

This message was written by a Palestinian to a Jewish friend. Then that Jewish friend passed it on to Palestinians friends. I don't know the person who originally wrote it. And now I'm passing it on to you. As the rhetoric becomes genocidal, root yourself in humanity. Pass it on.

Love this! Should be a required question not only for ministers, but also for people living in a country other than their own. h/t @DrJalika

A big difference from the earliest waves of immigration is that, back then, there were fewer restrictions on who could work. It's absurd to be spending billions on shelter when the people arriving would rather have the right to work than a free cot. Allow them to work
The mayor and governor claim the number of people arriving in NYC from other countries is unprecedented. This is not true. Similar and greater waves of immigration have occurred, many times. Sadly, the nativist reaction is also not unprecedented. gothamist.com/news/mayor-ada…

"It is pertinent … that Ms Ramos has … maintained personal contact with … Luis Rubiales" Abusers often bring up the "but she kept in touch" argument, pretending to ignore the power dynamics. Come on, @rfef, this is BS & you know it. Complicit much? theguardian.com/football/202…

I liked @mPinoe before, a lot, but this really seals it. What a brilliant reference.

Really appreciate @CMShahanaHanif's efforts to make our neighborhoods better for pedestrians and bikers. 9th street is getting better, but anyone who bikes in NYC will tell you paint is not enough. What's needed are fully separated bike lanes @TransAlt
Replying to @CMShahanaHanif
I will continue to have conversations with DOT to ensure this work to upgrade cycling infrastructure goes beyond dangerous corridors and instead focuses on creating a protected bike and pedestrian network throughout our community.

A situation I've been in more than once, parking or riding. Many drivers don't accept that bikes have a right to be there. How to change this? Methinks it takes a combination of communication from leaders; specific policies; and, enforcement.

yes yes yes. Can we have the same in NYC?
In Paris, owners of big, heavy cars will have to pay extra to park. Deputy Mayor: “There are no dirt paths , no mountain roads … SUVs are absolutely useless in Paris. Worse, they are dangerous, cumbersome and use too many resources to manufacture." theguardian.com/world/2023/j…
