Rules exceptions should be avoided if at all possible. Most exceptions can be changed to fit the rule structure rather than acting as an outlier to that structure.

/7 Maximize the potential of each component.
Does a component have a backside serving no purpose? What else could it be used for? Could a discarded component have a function?
Be sure the dual-use is intuitive or it will confuse the player.
