โ€œThe danger becomes clearer when Clause 8 is read together with Clause 3. If Parliament elects the President, and the President in turn elects Senators, the process becomes circular!โ€ @JoanaMamombe has thrown CAB3 into the bin with a single argument!

The move to put voters roll under RG is flawed and it will not fix issues with the voters roll. @ZECzim only need to be impartial and carry out the Constitutional mandate without any bias. In 2023 we wrote to them offering assistance and till now there is no response. We stand ready to assist them in managing the voters roll at no cost. There is absolutely no need to involve the RG office.

#FullClip: This Is Joana Mamombe @JoanaMamombe The Harare West Member Of Parliament, duly elected Under CCC ticket. When she was not recalled, many theories about her being associated with Tshabangu and ZanuPF's top echelons were advanced. Today when her voice is needed the most she says: Clause 3 is one of the most dangerous clauses, it must never take away the One man One Vote right to elect the president. Money has been flaunted to buy votes and a few MPs will be bought to decide who will become the next head of state on patronage, bribery and political bargaining The #CAB3 weakens the sovereignty of the people and takes power into the hands of the executive Parliament is a servant of the Constitution and the people! If the concerns with @ZECzim is its efficiency, lets capacitate it. If leaders want a 7-year term they must ask for it from the people through a referendum, and they must not be the immediate beneficiaries. Appointing more senators directly by the president seeks to skew a 2/3 majority without being elected.

I stand to benefit PERSONALLY from CAB 3. By all selfish calculations, I should support it. Some have whispered, "Take the opportunity while it is there." But leadership is not measured by what benefits us; it is measured by what benefits the people. When I asked myself, WHAT ABOUT THE PEOPLE? I found every reason to OPPOSE it.

โ€œThe People Did Not Ask for This Bill" - Hon. Karenyi Kore Rejects CAB 3 in Parliament Hon. Karenyi Kore's contribution to the parliamentary debate on Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 3 (CAB 3). During the debate, Hon. Karenyi argued that the people of Zimbabwe did not ask for the Bill and called for it to be subjected to a referendum. She also raised concerns about electoral reforms, political violence, corruption, and the need for an electoral system that citizens can trust. "The people did not ask for this Bill. CAB 3 does not create a single job and should be subjected to a referendum to avoid a conflict of interest. We want an electoral system citizens can trust. People want opportunities, not an extension of political power. The problem is not the Constitution; it is political violence and corruption. The voice of the people must remain the voice of our democracy. I stand with unemployed youth, farmers, vendors, workers, mothers and pensioners." โ€” Hon. Karenyi Kore during debate on Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 3.

"We want an electoral system the citizens can trust" โ€“ Hon. Chikombo Hon. Chikombo delivered a passionate rejection of Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 3 (#CAB3) in Parliament, arguing that the proposed changes fail to address the real issues facing Zimbabwe's democracy. According to Chikombo, the Bill does not eliminate electoral toxicity, heal national divisions, or strengthen reconciliation. Instead, he warned that it centralises power and takes decision-making further away from ordinary citizens. "Election toxicity is not removed by extending terms, but by reforming power," he said. He argued that Zimbabwe does not need fewer elections, it needs better elections that are free, credible, and trusted by the people. In one of the most striking moments of his presentation, Chikombo said the Bill "transfers power from the citizens" and sends the message that "their vote is dangerous." Watch the full video to hear his detailed arguments and decide for yourself: Does Zimbabwe need constitutional amendments, or does it need electoral reforms that restore public trust? ๐ŸŽฅ Watch now and join the conversation. #CAB3 #Zimbabwe #Parliament #ElectoralReform #Democracy #Governance #ZimbabwePolitics

Just in case anyone forgets, CCC MP Susan Matsunga received a US$50,000 cash gift and a brand new car from Wicknell Chivayo a few weeks ago. This week she has spoken out firmly in Parliament in favour of #CAB3. If this isnโ€™t inducement then I donโ€™t know what is.

The Guptas' Sun City wedding accidentally exposed their capture of South Africa. Tagwirei's $20 million wedding deliberately displayed his of Zimbabwe. I once had lunch with Kudakwashe Tagwirei. We served briefly together on the Presidential Advisory Council(PAC). It emerged before my resignation that he had more access to President Mnangagwa than the entire PAC put together. The leaked audio โ€” the grandiose claim : โ€œI am the next presidentโ€ โ€” cannot be authenticated. But authenticity is the wrong test. The right test is whether the claims map onto documented behaviour. Consider the record: a reported 30% stake behind CBZ, Zimbabweโ€™s biggest bank. US$1.28 billion through Command Agriculture without open tender. US$1.6 billion paid for Kuvimba to undisclosed individuals the authorities refuse to name. Chairmanship of the land tenure programme. Co-option into the ZANU-PF Central Committee, lubricated by US$21 million in vehicles. Standing beside the President when Ramaphosa visited Precabe Farm. Banking. Mining. Land. The party machine. Proximity to the presidency. None of it requires the tape to be real. The keystone is CAB3, which Parliament may pass THIS WEEK. It abolishes your right to elect your own President and hands that choice to a Parliament ZANU-PF controls. A man who could never win a national vote would not need one. South Africaโ€™s capture was eventually exposed by a free press and the Zondo Commission. CAB3 would entrench Zimbabweโ€™s โ€” writing the workaround into the constitution itself. The electorate is the last institution standing between a businessman and a captured presidency. This is not how we build a vibrant and compassionate society. Full piece in the first reply ๐Ÿ‘‡

I couldn't get the chance to debate #CAB3 again today but look Clause 21 seeks to repeal sect 281 (2) on Traditional leaders. Section 281(2) of our constitution was not written by accident. It was written to protect the dignity of traditional leadership. It says chiefs must not be members of political parties or act in a partisan manner. Why? Because once a chief wears party colours, he ceases to be a father of the whole community and becomes a factional leader. Hazvibude .

Thank you @gladyshlatywayo for speaking out about the fact that the #CAB3 public hearings were a violent and chaotic sham. If the Deputy Speaker wants more evidence beyond your eye-witness testimony, I am available to come and give evidence to Parliament about the attack by ZANU PF Central Committee member Luckmore Gapa, Nicholas Hamadziripi, and others who have not been held accountable to this day despite my making a police report against them.

Our position must be consistent: defend the Constitution at all times. We can not reject constitutional abuse by politicians and embrace constitutional abuse by soldiers. The mistake of 2017 has cost Zimbabwe dearly. The solution is constitutionalism, not another coup.

โ€˜You Canโ€™t Distort Representation Then Claim Legitimacyโ€™: DCP Rejects Zanu PFโ€™s Two-Thirds Majority Claim The Defend The Constitution Platform (DCP) has dismissed claims that Zanu PF commands a legitimate two-thirds majority in Parliament, arguing that ongoing recalls have skewed representation ahead of the Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 3 vote. ๐Ÿ” `Follow and share change Radio WhatsApp Channel in every group!` whatsapp.com/channel/0029Vb6โ€ฆ DCP Convenor, Senator Jameson Timba, said: โ€œThe Speaker knows it. You cannot first distort representation, and claim constitutional legitimacy for decisions taken by that distorted representation.โ€ Timba argued that the wave of recalls initiated by Sengezo Tshabangu since late 2023 has removed elected opposition MPs and Councillors, replacing them through by-elections held under disputed conditions. According to DCP, that process has artificially boosted Zanu PFโ€™s seat count and cannot be used to pass far-reaching amendments. CAB3 seeks to extend terms for the President, MPs and Councillors from five to seven years and replace direct presidential elections with a parliamentary vote. It requires a two-thirds majority in both Houses to pass. โ€œThe Constitution demands more than arithmetic. It demands legitimacy,โ€ Timba said. โ€œIf you use recalls to engineer a majority, then use that majority to amend the Constitution, you poison the entire process. The product of an illegitimate process cannot be legitimate law.โ€ Parliament is set to continue debate on CAB3 this week, with a vote possible by tomorrow. Civic groups backing DCP have called for the Bill to be withdrawn until by-elections are held to fill all vacant seats and until the recall mechanism is reviewed by the courts.
