Still relevant today. Though they shouldn't need to be.

Our political class like to think they live in a world somewhere between ‘The West Wing’ and ‘The Thick of It,’ when in reality their world increasingly resembles HBO’s ‘Chernobyl,’ but without nuclear power.
Most of British government seems to be dedicated to just stopping voters knowing things our politicians don't want them knowing. They've given up on governing so just obsess over comms and suppressing information!

Not sure whether this is spectacularly naive or simply a politician lying about their motives.
Immigration raids divide communities, discourage people from seeking support, and undermine trust in public services. We must oppose the hostile environment. Today I have announced an urgent review of Lambeth Council’s co-operation with immigration enforcement. brixtonbuzz.com/2026/06/lamb…

I suppose I do need the word "chaotic" emblazened on my cv somewhere.

There is a strong case for limiting access to screens for minors. Banning selected social media, though, is a way to impose digital ID on the entire country by the back door.

Perhaps I am missing something fundamental. But can someone explain to me why no-one is talking about the central role of parental responsibility? Is it simply because it's a genuinely terrible thing to ask a parent being interviewed who has lost their child?
Imagine banning a history-obsessed teenage boy from watching Mark Felton Productions on YouTube. Or watching Clarkson's old war documentaries. Horrendous.

Did you support safeguarding children when you voted to decriminalise abortion up to birth?

Some tricky conversations this evening about the impending social media ban. ‘I don’t even know who this government guy is’ ‘Keir Starmer’ ‘Keir Starmer, what does that mean’

In which case, Jarvis should resign.
EXC: Keir Starmer will not commit more money to the Defence Investment Plan for Dan Jarvis. Jarvis is expected to receive the same settlement of £13.5bn that led John Healey to quit the Government in anger last week, despite the new defence secretary’s pledge to ensure the Armed Forces have “what they need”. He will instead be told to supplement the existing budget by finding savings at the MoD when fresh negotiations kick off this week, two sources familiar with the situation told @Telegraph. Jarvis will, however, be given the chance to tweak the DIP *within the existing envelope* if he wishes. The news will dash hopes that John Healey’s resignation last week would force the PM to change course.

Oh, "smash them" is it?
Brilliant to hear Keir Starmer announce a ban on social media for U16s and restrictions on adult/child online gaming connections 💥💥💥 take on the platforms and smash them!

Your coverage of this @BBCBreakfast was quite something. You have acquired an observable tendency of picking your own endorsed campaigns and favoured charities.
Keir Starmer has announced that under-16s will be banned from social media. As he made the statement live in Downing Street he was watched on the #BBCBreakfast sofa by seven parents whose children died while using social media bbc.co.uk/news/live/c77yx1jp…

So many @UKLabour ministers trying to gain vicarious credit on the back of our armed forces’ professionalism and success. It’s what our people can do when the politicians let them, instead of threatening to persecute and prosecute them.
Immensely proud of our forces who executed this mission and the united UK determination to degrade Russia’s military machine by denying it financial support.

Great. Fantastic. Why only now? Has the legal advice suddenly changed?
In the early hours of this morning, I directed our Armed Forces to intercept a shadow fleet oil tanker attempting to pass through the English Channel. This successful operation delivers yet another blow to Russia and reminds those fueling Putin's war in Ukraine that we will not let them hide. I want to thank those involved, including our Armed Forces and law enforcement officers who keep this country safe 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

When people ask me for advice on standing for election, the first thing I say is “Don’t do it unless you have a purpose. If you think being an MP will be fun, you’ll soon be disabused. But if are working towards a goal, you’ll be able to shrug off all the insults and inconveniences.” Al Carns is a good example of someone who has gone into politics with a purpose. You don’t lightly step away from commanding the SBS or turn down a senior one-star field appointment. His purpose is plain enough: he wants to reverse the decades-long downgrading of our Armed Forces. Some MPs will respect his integrity; others will resent the mirror that he holds up to their own motives. We’ll find out soon enough which response is more common.
We need to get out of this mindset that wars are won by soldiers alone. They're won by supply chains, factories and the country behind them. That's the conversation we need to have.

Trump is going to lose the House in November. He might even lose the Senate. Tell me again about Musk buying US politics.
Replying to @afneil
Imagine him slowly buying British politics as he did American politics, resulting in DOGE when Trump was elected. He's already started to.
