It speaks volumes that House Democrats think an impeachable offense is working to improve student outcomes and reduce the federal bureaucracy. They must not be bothered by chronic failures of our education system that result in historic low test scores, a failed FAFSA form rollout, classrooms shuttered during COVID, designating parents as terrorists, and males in female locker rooms. Washington spends billions of taxpayer dollars annually—having spent more than $3 trillion since the Department of Education was established in 1980—yet just one-third of children can read proficiently. To the Democrats in Congress: do better.
Secretary McMahon has betrayed students, families, and educators by dismantling and demolishing the Department of Education, something she does not have authority to do. Congress created the Department and it would take an Act of Congress to shut it down. About 90 percent of students in this country attend public schools. Students have the right to equal access without discrimination and students with disabilities have the right to a free and appropriate education. I will not stand by and let Sec. McMahon destroy the federal programs, funding, and research that are critical to public schools and the millions of students they serve. Read more here: bonamici.house.gov/media/pre…

The Department of Education just transferred its Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services to HHS—and signed an agreement shifting civil rights complaint investigations to the DOJ. Officials stressed that students with disabilities won't lose any federal rights or funding—states will actually receive an additional $144M for FY2026. Linda McMahon is systematically moving the department's functions to agencies better suited to handle them. The dismantling is well underway. @TheElizMitchell reports: dailysignal.com/2026/06/16/e…

LINDA McMAHON: Parents have told us loud and clear—special education needs less red tape and stronger results. It shouldn't take a herculean effort to get children with disabilities the support they are guaranteed by law.

Today we welcomed @EDSecMcMahon to the Hoosier state to make an important education announcement. @usedgov has approved Indiana’s Returning Education to the States waiver. This new waiver will free up millions of dollars currently tied up in bureaucracy, reduce administrative costs, and allow schools to focus more on helping students graduate ready for enrollment, employment, or enlistment.

Indiana’s new Returning Education to the States Waiver frees up roughly $20 million from bureaucratic red tape to focus on what matters most: students. @GovBraun's team now joins Iowa and Louisiana as the third state to take advantage of these flexibilities. 🇺🇸

We’re working closely with @EDSecMcMahon and @usedgov to train and skill American Workers so they can earn a living and support their families in record-setting time. Another perfect pathway for this: Registered Apprenticeships!
For every 5 skilled trades workers who retire, only 2 replace them — putting us on track for a 2.1 million shortfall by 2030.     The good news: starting July 1, under our Workforce Pell program, Americans can gain new skills to earn family-sustaining wages in months, not years.

The SAVE plan is officially dead. The Dept. of Education's Under Secretary told us 7 million borrowers have to leave it and 300,000 already have. If you're still in SAVE, your balance isn't shrinking and you're losing time toward forgiveness. thecollegeinvestor.com/82054…

This headline is inaccurate and dangerous. It’s typical of @AP to cast ED’s important civil rights investigations as black vs. white issues when we see students of ALL races struggle academically. To allocate resources disproportionately to students of one race at the expense of others is not only a violation of civil rights law, but an infringement upon the basic fairness to which all students are entitled.

All of the good work that @EDSecMcMahon and her team are doing needs to continue and be codified. Every cent of taxpayer money should be treated as sacred because it comes directly out of the pockets of hard-working Americans. That is why no amount of fraud in federal public assistance programs is acceptable.
Fraudsters are stealing student aid with fake identities. We’re stopping them. Thank you to @RepBurgessOwens and @EdWorkforceCmte for advancing the No Aid for Ghost Students Act. @usedgov has already blocked more than $1B in fraud! yahoo.com/news/politics/arti…
