The Trump administration is trying to cut pay and benefits for Head Start educators, who do the important work providing young children with high-quality early childhood education. And Head Start involves parents too, which improves outcomes for the whole family. Children are a very good investment and I will fight these cuts.

Trump gutted the Voting Rights Act and now he's working to block vote by mail. This administration is trying to dismantle the people's right to vote. We won't let them.

Public funds should go to public schools, not wealthy parents and private schools that discriminate.

Public schools welcome and educate every child regardless of their background or income, and public funding should stay in public schools. The Big Ugly Bill’s voucher scam is a backdoor way to dismantle public education and divert public resources into private institutions - including religious schools. Research consistently shows that the majority of families participating in voucher programs already send their children to private schools. We must keep federal funding in public schools where all students can benefit.

Gun violence has no place in our schools, homes, and communities. June is #GunViolenceAwarenessMonth, and I stood with colleagues to recognize the heartbreaking toll gun violence takes and to recommit to doing all we can to prevent gun violence.

Budget cuts, gun violence, immigration enforcement, and mental health are real issues facing kids in schools, yet this committee wants to spend its time threatening schools, teachers, and children. Enough is enough.

It's unacceptable that Republicans on the Education and Workforce Committee are once again picking on vulnerable children and school districts that understand the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion.

We must discuss the real safety issues facing our public schools. Books about queer people and accurate history are not on that list.

Too many Oregonians and Americans are struggling to pay their energy bills, but Trump's Department of Energy is making it worse. They slashed more than 400 million dollars from clean energy projects in our state and Energy Secretary Wright said that prices are going to be “high and maybe even rising.” The Department of Energy should care about the American people, not just their fossil fuel friends.   @sciencedems
