"Thames Water plans to hike bosses’ pay in response to bonus caps." They were warned, I for one warned them. @SouthWestWater's CEO didn't get a bonus last year but did accept a whopping £300,000 pay rise. Banning bonuses is nothing but a sign of regulatory failure and ineffectual, cheap political posturing. ft.com/content/6b6e9b4b-4e22…

Vast swathes of farm fields are spread with sewage sludge - a mix of human & industrial waste - each year. We tested it & found levels of PFAS forever chemicals that wouldn't be considered safe for use on allotments. Our article in @guardian theguardian.com/environment/…

Amazing news from Wales, though the fine print says it's just exploring the feasibility at this stage - this is one of the main things missing from the Renters' Rights Bill in England

A single 400-year-old ancient oak produces 234,000 litres of oxygen a year while soaking up carbon dioxide, and can support more than 2,000 species of bird, insect, fungus, and lichen. Nature is amazing - we need more of it, not less. RT if you agree 🌳

Illegal dumping of plastics, asbestos, tyres, commercial, household & hazardous waste, fuel laundering: in NI, a cocktail of toxic chemicals from waste dumps poisons waters. In only 4% of cases did the NIEA even send polluters a warning letter. m.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/new…

There is no easy way to talk about this. This week the UN announced we are on track to reach up to 3.1° Celsius of warming. We are slated to blow past the goals of the Paris Accords. Here's what this means. (1/9) 🧵

Does air pollution cause dementia? UK scientists launch study to find out ⁦@wesstreeting⁩ ignore the biggest threat to the NHS at your peril. Technology is the tip of the iceberg & won’t solve the PHe crisis. A radical preventative model is needed. theguardian.com/society/2024…

I am a biodiversity expert & I agree with everything said here. Biodiversity Net Gain is a lie but most people without enough ecological knowledge cannot see this & are fooled by the lie. Fungi & invertebrates are where enormous biodiversity of species are found & are ignored.

It was obvious to any informed person, with their eyes open, that the Biodiversity Net Gain policy, would be abused to justify the destruction of important habitat. It is a horrible legalistic contrivance, and it means nothing. theguardian.com/environment/… 1/4

Depressing news that Govt may approve bee-killing pesticide despite election promise to ban it - & outrageous that British Sugar has applied to use neonics for 5th year, despite industry commitment to end reliance in 2023. Govt must act to protect bees 🐝 theguardian.com/environment/…
