MaQwabe’s arc is actually kind of sad when you think about it. Deep down, she always knew she wasn’t Jonas’ ideal woman.
She knew she wasn’t the first option, and she knew she never would be. Not because there was anything wrong with her, but because Jonas always seemed drawn to women he viewed as more glamorous or aspirational.
You could see it in how little she demanded from him compared to the other wives. She wasn’t fighting to be the favourite because, on some level, she already knew she wasn’t. Even when it came to her daughter being recognised by Jonas’ family, she never seemed desperate for validation. For much.
It’s so tragic that she was there before the success. She invested in Jonas, supported him, and helped him get on his feet. Yet despite everything she poured into that relationship, she always seemed aware that she was building a future she might never fully share in.
