Today marks an important milestone as the EU Pact on Migration and Asylum enters into force. More secure borders. More efficient procedures. Greater responsibility-sharing across Europe. Migration in the EU must be managed effectively, fairly & firmly-and this Pact delivers. 🇪🇺

Today, the European Union took a major step forward. All Member States agreed to open the first accession negotiations cluster with Ukraine and Moldova. At the first Intergovernmental Conference on Monday, we will open the cluster on fundamentals; the backbone of the accession process. It covers the core values and principles on which the EU is built, from the rule of law to strong democratic institutions. This is a recognition of the determination, courage and hard work shown by both countries in advancing reforms, even in the face of immense challenges. And a signal that the EU’s offer of peace, stability and opportunity is unmatchable. Enlargement is a strategic choice. By bringing our nations closer together, we strengthen peace, security and prosperity across our continent. In a world marked by growing uncertainty, a larger European Union is in our common interest. Enlargement remains one of the EU’s greatest success stories and our best investment in our shared future.

The EU’s #CATCH system is a key tool in the fight against illegal fishing, ensuring transparency and fairness in global seafood trade. We’ve worked closely with the US to smooth the transition, and we’re confident in finding solutions that work for everyone. I spoke to Iran’s Foreign Minister @araghchi about the latest escalation in the Gulf and the state of negotiations with the US. I’ve also been in touch with the Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah. The resumed attacks on the Gulf countries and their critical infrastructure are unacceptable. A return to full-scale war would come at a tremendous cost to the entire region. The diplomatic route remains the best path out of this war.
