Happening tonight! No fee or registration needed...
A welcome initiative of the @NL_EnviroNet - a good opportunity for advocates and skeptics to meet, discuss and learn from one another about the environmental costs and benefits for NL of this important shift. More conversations on contentious topics to come!

There's an update in the upcoming @CityofStJohns committee meeting on EV charging progress and future options. They're considering spending $300,000 over four years to build 26 more (faster 19.2kWh) L2 chargers - 30% of the cost would be federally funded pub-stjohns.escribemeetings.…

"North American automakers have presented China as a sort of Goliath to their David. But the real Davids—Canadians like the family above—just want an affordable EV to make their life a little easier," write @joannakyriazis and @RachelSDoran. New op-edšŸšŸ‘‡ thestar.com/opinion/contribu…

Is your electricity provider working on offering home EV charging for free like @OctopusEnergy is trialling? This actually saves $ because together EV batteries across your grid can reduce demand at peak times. It's the future - are our utilities ready? octopus.energy/power-pack/

To be more precise - it claims up to 610 km of range added in 15 mins, but requires a charger delivering 410 kW DC - more than any you'll find on roads in NA and Europe. My Ioniq 5 charges about 1/3 that fast on the fastest chargers (350kW) which is already fine, frankly.

Take it all back, tell them off, and fine them for wasting the time of all the politicians and civil servants who crafted the deal!
So what happens to the 590 million tax dollars Ottawa and Ontario gave Ford to build EVs in Oakville?

Municipal EV charging infrastructure from @CityofBrighton made super simple. Blink and you might miss it! What's the cost per unit to install and maintain it I wonder?

EVs have an important role where populations are too spread out to easily serve with transit but the batteries in a @cybertruck could power four (!) @BYDCompany Seagulls - the top-selling non-Tesla BEV globally. What a waste of resources!
Love this vehicle. One of the most climate-friendly options on the planet, and it looks dope. Oh and there’s a cybertruck in the picture too

Oh for heaven's sake not you too! What about protecting our environment? Making it easier for millions of Canadians to buy better, cheaper vehicles? We're subsidizing our domestic EV supply chain already anyway!
Protecting Canadian workers is our priority. That’s why Canada is launching a consultation to protect Canadian auto workers and our electric vehicle supply chains from unfair Chinese trade practices.

I have decidedly mixed to skeptical views about this. Have a listen to this fascinating @TimHarford Cautionary Tales episode about the Sinclair C5 timharford.com/2022/04/cauti…
Microcars are bringing congestion to the bike lane: "Given the increasing concerns about traffic congestion ... the Karbike’s innovative design is timely." "The Karbike’s compact size and ability to navigate bike lanes could help alleviate these issues." interestingengineering.com/p…

This excellent piece ends "Switching to Canadian electricity for driving will cut climate pollution. And it will also save Canadian drivers far more money every time they fill up than any gas-tax-holiday ever will."
šŸ‘šŸ‘šŸ‘to @bsaxifrage at @NatObserver for doing an exceptionally thorough job showing Canada's #GasTax are much lower than most comparable countries, the #carbontax @PierrePoilievre wants to axe is only a small part, and we need to raise not lower it! nationalobserver.com/2024/06…

Sensible messaging from @globeandmail - cheap Chinese EVs will make going āš”ļøa clearer option and long-term raise sales of locally-built models from other carmakers if they up their game. A win win! theglobeandmail.com/opinion/…

I signed up to get email alerts about your beautiful, small electric #fiat500e @FIAT500Canada - what gave your parent company the idea I would want to know about their grotesquely oversized gas guzzlers?

So instead of a collaborative industry charging standard (CCS), we were persuaded to adopt Tesla's NACS which now has no technical team to drive it forward?
Last summer I wrote about the potential dangers of having the country’s EV charging network inordinately controlled by a single company, itself controlled by a single, reactionary billionaire. Piece aged pretty well! newrepublic.com/article/1738…

I predicted that the limited capacity of our EV charging network would be demonstrated last year on the May holiday but turns out it is today our network's capacity was finally... er... eclipsed... Fortunately my car is stuck inside the totality!
