Thanks to everyone who visited our Get Curious activities at @sim_manchester last week. The scores from the Meteorite Hunt are in, well done to all who took part.
Congratulations to E=HC2 who topped the leaderboard with a fantastic 11 points 🥇
It is half term and the Manchester weather looks a bit rainy . So why not Get Curious with us and get your hands on some space rocks at @sim_manchester tomorrow?
Friday 20th Feb, 10-3, free entry, suitable for all the family.

Welcome to @Shawn9924, more formally known as Yulun Xiao, who has joined us from China 🇨🇳
Shawn will be investigating volcanism on the Moon for his PhD 🌝
And hopefully he'll have plenty of time to explore the UK over the next few years 🇬🇧
This week we'd like to introduce PhD student @chloe_kadir, who has joined us from @UoMPhysics just around the corner.
Chloe is working on models for the flights of meteors, to make better predictions about if and where meteorites might land when fireballs are seen ☄️

We've had a number of new staff and students join us over the past few months, so we want to introduce some of them to the world.
First up, Tom Barrett, a new Post Doc in the group, who is melting space rocks and looking inside them with CT scans.
NASA's #OSIRISREx mission delivered samples from #asteroid#Bennu to Earth in September 2023, and analyses by researchers worldwide have shown that the asteroid contains many of the chemical building blocks of life.
Group member Rhian, author on one of the new papers, said "This research is like opening a time capsule from the early solar system. We were surprised to find that the asteroid sample held such a complete library of minerals and some unique salts."

Josh has written a nice article for @ConversationUK about newly published results from the #Chandrayaan3 mission, which support the theory that a magma ocean of molten rocks once covered the surface of the Moon 🌝
