Proud to be involved in this research with @HSELive @tusla Clarecare & parent partners & @MICLimerick colleagues. Parents really valued the opportunity to have their voices heard. So many important findings and as one participant noted: "More discussions are needed about this"
Nice piece in @ClareChampion about the parents with lived experience who were part of the research team in our recent study on parenting while experiencing mental health challenges- these parents were instrumental in shaping the research - great to see them highlighted here 👏

54% of parents who take medication for mental health challenges report their role as a parent wasn't included in discussions about their medication. Proud to be involved in this new @MICLimerick study with @HSELive @tusla Clarecare & parent partners. So many important findings⬇️
The Department of Psychology in MIC—in partnership with parents, the HSE, Tusla and Clarecare—has launched new findings from funded research which examined the experiences of parents living with mental health challenges. Launched today and entitled 'Building Connections: Experiences of parenting while living with mental health challenges', the study aimed to find out more about the difficulties parents face, and the supports and barriers that are in place in terms of seeking help. Read more about it here: mic.ul.ie/news/2025/new-mic-… Pictured: Dr Suzanne Egan and Prof. Niamh Stack📷

This research feels particularly timely with recent launch of the Department of Health ‘Sharing The Vision: A mental health policy for everyone Implementation Plan 2025-2027’ given the findings highlight the importance of looking at wider family impact @PsychSocIreland
