After 10 years I am leaving #academia for a job in the industry. I thought people in academia are the smartest and most resilient. But how smart can you be if you accept unstable and undervalued working conditions? Some realizations:

The global biomass of domestic cat doubles that of all terrestrial carnivores combined (wolves, tigers, otters, foxes... ALL!!!)
I knew about crazy livestock figures, but this is shocking. And dog numbers are 10 times larger

I see that many positions are announced again because no candidate was found and I know that many professors have problems finding “backbones of their research” (aka post docs). My message: don't sell yourself short. Academia is now a seller´s market.

Free data!!!
One thing that bothers me in ecology/science is that a massive amount of data are collected, but only a small portion is used. I decided to make my data freely available instead of lying to myself that I will use them.
