Having asked Grok, ALL modern societies display signs of racism, there is no modern society in which racism is completely absent.
Relative to other countries in the world, and as assessed by the World Values Survey which asks respondents in different countries if they would be hostile to a different race family living next door, Ireland is at, or very close to the bottom of the league table, that is, we are amongst the least racist societies in the world, and waaay less racist than societies like Japan or Nigeria.
And finally, here's the kicker, and I quote Grok ....
"Evidence from psychology, political science, and public opinion trends indicates that repeated elite accusations of systemic racism against a relatively tolerant society often increase polarization, defensive in-group identity, and anti-immigrant or backlash sentiments rather than reducing prejudice."
So, not only is Sinead Gibney misleadingly accusing Irish society of racism when we're among the least racist in the world, but her "elite accusations" tend to increase anti-immigrant sentiment and polarisation!
It would assist fairness and accuracy and societal cohesion if political panel presenters or fellow members on such panels would challenge such elite accusations.
But that's probably asking for too much.
"We live in a racist society, we have to name that and we have to deal with it" says woke Social Democrats TD Sinéad Gibney on The Week in Politics
