Hi! We’re the EdWeek Union - roughly 50 people who work tirelessly to make our nonprofit news organization a key destination for educators and the general public. We wanted to share an update on our efforts to bargain with management for a fair contract. 🧵

EdWeek management has repeatedly said our salaries reflect our humble nonprofit status. But CEOs at our closest nonprofit competitors earn $250-$300K, while ours annually takes home more than half a million dollars. Why does scarcity logic only apply to our lowest-paid workers?

Just last year, EdWeek spent nearly DOUBLE our requested salary increase on legal fees. Their lawyer once chastised us for asking for this raise just so we could “buy horses.” Our lowest paid employee makes less than $45,000. We don’t want horses. We NEED groceries.
