Sigh... Photography isn't pretending to be hand-painted or vice versa. Movies aren't pretending to be theatre. None of these examples are trying to be the same thing, they're completely distinct in their own right. So with that in mind: what makes AI-generated art unique aside from being faster and cheaper than traditional art? It's NOT "just another medium", it exists purely to imitate the skill and creativity of artists for less money. And you know what? As an 'accessibility tool', this wouldn't even be a problem if the technology were limited to those who needed it the most. So why are we seeing multi-billion dollar companies like Sega using it in Crazy Taxi? Why are Square Enix using it in their promo materials for Kingdom Hearts? Please don't fall for this narrative, this tech was built to replace us, not help us.

The slop cycle: 1) Company is caught or admits to using AI 2) They get blasted for it online and in the press 3) Company puts out a damage control statement, trying to justify their use of AI 4) This only makes people more angry, doing further damage to the brand 5) Company has a sudden change of heart and decides not to use AI anymore How many more times are we going to do this? Sega, listen to your customers. We DO NOT WANT AI in our games.
Any AI assets are used only as placeholders that are being replaced with manually created materials, says the Crazy Taxi: World Tour lead, Kenji Kanno, to Kotaku. “We used it as a reference, so our artists would pull up [and] generate some of their ideas, and then they would look at that, you know, generated image, and then they would draw the actual thing. So actual creators, everything from programming to assets, everything is made by an actual human. It’s only used as a reference for them to look at, and then they would actually create the actual thing that would go into the game.” SEGA is far from the first company to use AI for such purposes. While such publishers often face initial criticism, it seems that the tool is becoming the industry’s norm. #SEGA #CrazyTaxi

Serious question... did a big YouTuber recently do a pro-AI piece or something? Because the way people are suddenly behaving like this is some sort of culture war is insane. Unless you're benefiting directly from Gen AI - which, trust me, only applies to those who are rich or popular enough to cut through the noise - why would you want this to become the norm?? If you're paying full price for a game, why are you okay with them cutting corners like this? Where's the "lazy devs" crowd these days? I miss them.

Shame, I was actually looking forward to this. Oh well, no great loss! Plenty more games out there that were given the love and attention they deserve.
SEGA releases AI-generated content disclosure for the new 'Crazy Taxi' game "At SEGA Corporation, we utilize generative AI as a support tool for developers, aiming to provide better content to our users and enable developers to focus more on creative tasks" "We have used such generative AI support tools during development of Crazy Taxi: World Tour. No AI was used in reference to the performers in the game"

Alrighty then. In that case, I'm going to leverage my right as a consumer and say no thanks.
Crystal Dynamics has responded to its use of AI in Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, telling Eurogamer "we leverage AI tools to help our teams iterate on ideas faster and more efficiently, while ensuring that all finished content in the final product is human-crafted" eurogamer.net/tomb-raider-le…

Worst thing is, this isn't even your typical studio, it's funded by a company worth HUNDREDS OF BILLIONS of dollars. An absolutely grotesque and unthinkable amount of money. So why do they even need AI?? If you want work done faster, HIRE MORE ARTISTS. There's literally no excuse for this nonsense.

To those saying "It'll still be successful" - sentiment towards AI is at an all-time low right now, and considering how anti-AI so many journalists and writers are... yeah, no one's going to spin this in a positive light. Everyone is already reporting on this, and the response has been incredibly negative. It's obviously possible that a lot of consumers simply won't care, but we all know how a bad vibe online can absolutely tank a game. I'll be shocked if this has no impact on sales.

I'm so freaking proud of the Piece By Piece team - we're now in an official bundle with @ustwogames!! How cool is that!? As ever, I'm so thankful that I got to work on such a beautiful game, let alone as its composer. This project really has been the gift that keeps on giving!

I added an Anti-AI Human-Created badge to the Game UI Database. Every single one of the 72,684 screenshots on the site (and counting!) was painstakingly tagged BY HAND with absolutely no AI assistance whatsoever. Even the colour palettes! And I still manage to upload and classify a different game each day. If you're a creative, please consider adding a similar disclaimer to your work. In an age where some people are seemingly content to do the bare minimum, you deserve credit for the effort you put in. gameuidatabase.com

"Generate a corporate-style public apology that will shut up those anti-AI losers and get us off the hook. It should express that we have learned from our mistakes, when we clearly haven't. Thanks!"
Dear Party Animals players, Regarding the controversy surrounding the recent "Golden Paw Awards" AI Video Contest, we would like to offer our deepest apologies to all players who have expressed concern, shared criticism, and voiced their opinions — especially to our creator community. Following the announcement of this event, we received a significant amount of negative feedback. We have read through your comments and opinions one by one. We must admit that our consideration of the event's conception was insufficient, the design was inadequately thought through, and our communication with the community was not up to par. Even though our original intention was to encourage more diverse forms of creative expression and lower the barrier to entry, allowing more players who love Party Animals to participate, we mistakenly tied "lowering the barrier" together with "using AI." In doing so, we overlooked the potential offense and harm that the ongoing debate surrounding AI-generated content could cause to our players and the creator community. We feel deeply uneasy and apologetic about this, and we sincerely accept the criticism. After carefully considering voices from all sides, we held a vote across our major platforms regarding whether the event should proceed. Based on your feedback and our own internal review and reflection, we have made the following decision: Effective immediately, the "Golden Paw Awards" event is officially canceled. To the players who were troubled, disappointed, or offended by this situation, we would like to once again express our sincere apologies. To every player who voiced criticism, participated in the vote, and pushed us to re-evaluate this issue, we would like to express our most sincere gratitude. Moving forward, we will approach related topics with a much more humble and cautious attitude. Before launching any future community creation events, we pledge to communicate thoroughly, listen earnestly to your feedback, and ensure we have reached a community consensus before deciding whether to go ahead. Additionally, we will continue to collect, organize, and act upon player feedback regarding gameplay mechanics and other areas. We hereby promise to listen more closely to our players, respect your voices, and maintain a tighter line of communication with the community. The Party Animals Team May 19, 2026

After promoting an AI art contest (which blew up in your face spectacularly), you're asking your community if they want to see AI in your contest? Are you stupid? Why even offer that as an option? Get Gen AI out of video games!
Hi everyone. We’d like to address the recent discussion around the AI video contest, and first of all, we’re sorry for upsetting players with this event. We’re also sorry that we didn’t communicate with everyone clearly enough before the event started. Our original goal was to lower the barrier to creation. In past contests, we saw players with great ideas and scripts who couldn’t fully bring them to life because they weren’t familiar with tools like editing, modeling, or animation software. We hoped AI could be a more accessible tool that lets more people take part. That said, we understand the concerns around AI content. We are not trying to dismiss handmade work or disrespect creators. To us, AI is just another tool. What we truly care about is the idea, the expression, and the final work. We’d like to leave the next step up to the community. Please vote on what we should do: 1. Cancel the AI video contest 2. Change it into a non-AI creation contest 3. Keep the AI category and add a separate handmade category If you have another suggestion outside of these three options, please feel free to share it as well. Thank you.

The pitch: democratise creativity! The reality: practitioners being priced out of their own skillsets, and storefronts being flooded with low-effort slop to the point that discovery becomes nigh-on impossible for EVERYONE, including those using this tech. Congrats Unity, this sucks.
Unity AI is now in Open Beta 🎉💫 We believe AI has the most impact when it helps creators move faster while staying in control of the creative process. Use our built-in agent tuned for Unity workflows or connect the AI tools you prefer via AI Gateway and MCP Server.

People will goto such ridiculous lengths to hide their humanity for fear of rejection, just BE YOURSELF ffs. Nobody is going to judge you for a typo. This, on the other hand? Cringe.
