Our noise about the threat to the Ocean Terminal Discovery Garden has made the Evening News and is getting stakeholders considering alternative solutions. Fingers crossed it's rejuvenation not demolition for this gem of a pocket park. 🤞🌱 edinburghnews.scotsman.com/n…

An excellent thread from @edinspotlight. If you live near Macdonald Road, please be a good samaritan to these trees. If you live elsewhere, look out for thirsty young street trees that need your help in this hot weather.

The trees in Mcdonald Road need your URGENT help.
Via @andyheald (who knows about this stuff) they need constantly watered. You cannot over water them as the hole goes down to their roots. 20-30 litres a day needed.
Please water them if you live nearby!

They can't go to the pub either, so if you could give them a drink that would be great.
Some cool clean tap water, will keep them alive in this dry weather.

I've always thought there should be more conifers in our northern city parks, so I was really pleased to hear someone else suggest it to me yesterday. Providing colour for rhe six months when the broadleaves are bare, and shelter/ seed for birds and bugs. What do you think?

These trees around the Scott Monument are some of the most prominent and photographed in Edinburgh. It's been hugely disappointing over the last few years to watch what looks like a sustained attempt to kill them off. Our @andyheald has been keeping up the pressure:

Timber!
Trees are living beings, not "infrastructure". A city needs to care for its tree population and nurture a new generation just as it does its human citizens.
Also a good illustration of why the council close parks, and why you shouldn't walk/ drive under trees, in gales.
