Thanks @craftygreenpoet! Walking the site we felt sure that routing the path through the wood should be quicker and considerably cheaper than relandscaping the whole area.

We need more safe routes to cycle but we need to look after woodland where it exists, especially where it could provide a fantastic asset to the community. Surely it’s possible to do both...
There's a secret wood in the heart of Edinburgh. Sauchiebank Wood in the heart of Dalry could be a fantastic asset for an active travel route, but it's under threat. It needs your help today! Watch, and follow the link to find out more: 🌳🚶‍♀️🍂👩🏽‍🦽🌿🚴🏼‍♂️🌳 treesofedinburgh.blogspot.co…

Our noise about the threat to the Ocean Terminal Discovery Garden has made the Evening News and is getting stakeholders considering alternative solutions. Fingers crossed it's rejuvenation not demolition for this gem of a pocket park. 🤞🌱 edinburghnews.scotsman.com/n…

An excellent thread from @edinspotlight. If you live near Macdonald Road, please be a good samaritan to these trees. If you live elsewhere, look out for thirsty young street trees that need your help in this hot weather.
The trees in Mcdonald Road need your URGENT help. Via @andyheald (who knows about this stuff) they need constantly watered. You cannot over water them as the hole goes down to their roots. 20-30 litres a day needed. Please water them if you live nearby! Cont/

An important thread from our @andyheald. Please read and check on the trees near you as you take your permitted exercise:

Some of Edinburgh's lovely new street trees are looking quite thirsty. They can't go to the pub either, so if you could give them a drink that would be great. Some cool clean tap water, will keep them alive in this dry weather. Thank you 🌳💚👏 #TreesOfEdinburgh

This will get you thinking! Worth following the comments on the @ArbAssociation feed too, you'll learn all kinds of stuff about urban trees.
Our first big native #tree derby match in the #UrbanTreeWorldCup sees SILVER BIRCH take on SYCAMORE. Two gritty survivors battling it out for a place in Round 2. This fixture is too close to call. Which one are you supporting at #Stonehouse2020? bit.ly/3c4oLEA

This morning we're at a meeting at the Council Chambers to discuss the Edinburgh Million Trees initiative. Everyone has come to the table with different approaches and ideas, and they are adding up to start to sound quite achievable :-) edinburgh.gov.uk/news/articl…

Brilliant to see these 86 trees of 15 species, big, small, conifer and broadleaf, going in along Ferry Road. And a happy woodland officer :) @ruthsylvatica

I've always thought there should be more conifers in our northern city parks, so I was really pleased to hear someone else suggest it to me yesterday. Providing colour for rhe six months when the broadleaves are bare, and shelter/ seed for birds and bugs. What do you think?

These trees around the Scott Monument are some of the most prominent and photographed in Edinburgh. It's been hugely disappointing over the last few years to watch what looks like a sustained attempt to kill them off. Our @andyheald has been keeping up the pressure:

Hi - Can you answer my question please - Walking past the site today, your contractors are deliberately compacting the soil around these trees. Why are you allowing this damage to occurr ? @adamrmcvey @FollowTheCow

Timber! Trees are living beings, not "infrastructure". A city needs to care for its tree population and nurture a new generation just as it does its human citizens. Also a good illustration of why the council close parks, and why you shouldn't walk/ drive under trees, in gales.
