The 2nd edition of 'How Learning Happens' is finally out! and @P_A_Kirschner and I are very excited to share it. Here's a brief preview of what's new ⬇️ 🧵 ➡️ Firstly, we felt that the missing elements in the first part of the 1st edition all fell within the broader category of memory and specifically how it underpins, foregrounds, and interacts with learning so we added a new section featuring 5 seminal works and why educators should know about them. ➡️There is a new foreward by John Sweller. ➡️ We also added a second closing chapter in which, after discussing the ten deadly sins of education (the original concluding chapter), we discuss the ways in which seminal research can become distorted into dysfunctional implementations of its original form, what Brown and Campione christened “Lethal Mutations”. ➡️ Finally we’ve updated, checked, and rechecked the links and QR‑codes, added some links to new additional materials, and corrected mistakes that we and others found in the original book.

Sam Uffindell was lucky to avoid NZ’s criminal justice system as a schoolboy – but it was the right outcome. @rnz_news this article makes some outrageous claims that are well beyond the scope of the author’s expertise. Did you read it before republishing? rnz.co.nz/news/on-the-inside…
The National Party's downplaying of the unprovoked violent assault perpetrated by their MP Sam Uffindell as a 16 year old sickens me. It's exactly that narrative that explains why bullying and violence is so endemic in our education system.

Being in a presentation with teacher-librarians does indeed make me feel as if I’m with my “Tribe”. @givemeabooknow presents with passion and nuance about Tribalism in Australian literature for our edification at the IBSC conference in Dallas. #IBSCAC @BoysSchools

Claudia and I face some difficult questions about the direction in which our teaching of Secondary English has drifted in recent years. Her doctoral research brought to our attention that the study of complex literary texts is diminishing in New Zealand. podcasts.apple.com/nz/podcas…
