My review of Geek Love by Katherine Dunn for Ellroy Reads. I also talk about Dunn's friendship with Ellroy and read from some letters Ellroy wrote to her youtu.be/YmQnHBk7qxg?is=2Hpe…

A reader contacted me to say his 91 year old grandad Wilson loved my James Ellroy biography 'Love Me Fierce in Danger'. Apparently he couldn't believe Ellroy was still alive by the end. Glad you enjoyed the book, Wilson!

Lovely event at Kraken Comics, Bebington to celebrate their first birthday. It's a wonderful bookshop. Bittersweet to see a copy of Persepolis after Marjane Satrapi passed away recently.

Ellroy told me he would never introduce LA Confidential the film again. But now he is back at it. Why? He hates the movie, and his presence there will only make the ticket buyers miserable. Go see him at a bookshop appearance instead. laconservancy.org/tours-even…

Wow. Wow. Wow. U guys and gals rock. Little more than 24 hours since this ep has been released, and it's already one of the most successful of the year. Truly greatful for all who are tuning in en masse and making this the most successful year of IFWT thus far.
Anchor.fm/ifwtpod 🎥 NEW EP! 🎥 I'm joined by CHRIS BABALIS, leader of Greek doom metal band ACID MAMMOTH, who brings the podcast, in his opinion, cinema's most doom-laden film, John Milius' CONAN THE BARBARIAN (1982) (Check out Chris' awesome poster design for the ep!)

RIP David Hockney. Incredible artist, but I might remember him best for the episode of The Sopranos where a cheap imitation of A Bigger Splash leaves Tony flummoxed.

Ellroy Reads is really picking up with the release of Red Sheet. My next episode will be a review of Katherine Dunn's wonderfully strange novel Geek Love. I'll also be talking about Ellroy and Dunn's friendship over the years: youtube.com/post/UgkxX9C_zOJ…

James Ellroy has described our modern dependence on computers as 'satanic'. Perhaps that's true. But I would recommend these three books to readers for their satanic allure alone...

If anyone is wavering over picking up a copy of Red Sheet I hope my review might sway you one way or the other.
It's publication day for James Ellroy's Red Sheet. 25 years ago I was queueing outside Waterstones on the day The Cold Six Thousand was published. Now I get ARCs, but Ellroy's work still inspires the same devoted obsession in me. My Red Sheet review: youtu.be/76hOf20vSOo?si=4w5x…

Stephen’s excellent bio explains how Ellroy became the Demon Dog. Read it.
