There was no neighborhood consultation, so I set out to do my own. I have talked to 100 people all with similar stories to share. @Josie_Osborne @VCHhealthcare @Dave_Eby
The residents around 900 Helmcken St. keep being told their concerns are being heard. How many complaints, safety incidents stories like these does it take before neighbourhood mental health and public safety are treated as part of the public health equation too? @Josie_Osborne

Mostly, unfortunately not Hornby/Helmlckn Street. Not sure I’d recognize The Murray Hotel without a police, fire or ambulance out front.

What it has done, it has actioned Vancouver to clear up and clean up the streets. Very excited about that! Whether you like FIFA or not, the point is we can be a better city, a safer city and a cleaner city for ourselves and for world visitors. @MyVancouver

Not opening “at this time,” yet preparations for occupancy appear to be continuing. Then again, what would you expect from a BC NDP government that campaigned on affordability relief, cancelled it after the election, and now asks residents to take them at their word?
Apparently renovations have begun at 900 Helmcken . 1-800 got junk came and started removing a bunch of items. Then a van with new glass rolled up. Also, at midnight, there were crews doing work. What’s going on? @CityofVancouver

Even though there’s a pause on the OPS at 900 Helmcken Street, our beloved neighbour acting school is taking down its sign this morning after being given no choice by the developer-landlord but to vacate before June 1.

People keep saying these sites “prevent disorder” while the Helmcken corridor already has years of proof to the contrary- violence, shutdowns, leases not renewed, and the same problems shuffled block to block under the same operators.

I think the key nuance here in the release Is “at this time, and there is currently no planned date for opening.” Did any one really think they get their permits and open just in time for FIFA? No. @downtownvan @MyVancouver
I applaud the Province for not proceeding with the opening of the planned OPS at 900 Helmcken. Time should taken to consult with community and biz on real impacts and consider thoughtful health based alternatives. news.gov.bc.ca/releases/2026…

I wasn’t going to post this, but here’s an email from the parking lot that was effectively forced out of business by the disorder already impacting the Helmcken corridor shortly after the Howe St. OPS opened. This is a track record, not a hypothetical.

What many people may not realize is that this location has already been tested. A drug trailer previously operated in the adjacent parking lot to 900 Helmcken but was ultimately removed due to ongoing disorder and community concerns.
#IndigoGroup your parking lot on Hornby Street beside the Murray has been taken over by drug addicts. Not one car parked. #indigoneo #parkingvancouver #vanpoli

Residents aren’t imagining a risk. We’ve already lived the pattern.

I’ve been raising concerns about this site for years👇🏼Disorder worsened the parking lot never opened. If VCH the province already had their 👀 on an exhalation site here, people are ✅ to question whether the area was intentionally left to deteriorate to support that agenda.
25 Jun 2025
As if it’s not bad enough that the parking lot can’t open because of the drug use and mischief - somebody has gone and vandalized the fence so they could shove a couch and all garbage into it.

Sensible plan for LA. Van/BC could use similar vision and plan. Stop pouring money into the poverty industrial complex. Have you seen this? @VanCityVice @somerspsych @AdamZivo
If that addict on your street were your own son, what would you do? That is the defining question that guides my 5 step plan to fix the homelessness problem in LA. We *must* end this evil racket of corrupt politicians and NGOs who profit off the misery of these poor souls. They launder money and feed them more drugs, so they can keep their customers locked in this hell on our streets. We have a moral obligation from God to help them and make our city safe and clean for everyone. Karen Bass and Nithya Raman have forsaken this city. Time for real leadership. Time for real compassion.

$547,000 of public money, for two months, to oversee two tenants, in arguably deplorable conditions. Truly astonishing that this is happening under the watch of our provincial government. #bcpoli #vanpoli
We now know how much it cost the government to keep two tenants in a Vancouver SRO hotel, while the facility was being shut down. globalnews.ca/news/11858104/…

People can disagree, but environment matters. I know someone who hasn’t gone home in three years because their dealer still lives in the neighbourhood. Recovery gets a lot harder when the same triggers are waiting outside your door.
If a person with serious addiction/mental health issues is provided a hotel room near the epicentre of drugs, in a hotel filled with others similarly suffering, with almost no rules or support, what outcome should a reasonable person expect? Visit and see for yourself.

Hello there 🐞

Thank you @PeterMeiszner for being the only one to speak to a resident about this!
I had the chance to speak with downtown Vancouver resident Paul Tolnai about the growing concerns from neighbours regarding @VCHhealthcare’s proposed OPS site at Helmcken and Hornby, and the continued forceful rollout of this failed model without community consultation. #vanpoli
