Traffic safety has been a priority under our administration in Jersey City we were the 1st in NJ to adopt #VisionZero - you can see the changes 🚦 traffic related fatalities down 75% 🚲 More bike lanes safer streets 🚧 Curb cuts, bump-outs, speed humps for the 1st time. You can actually see the change and the data backs it up.

And we’re starting traffic studies now to explore No Turn on Red being thoughtful on where/how to implement across JC. We’re aiming to move on this by year’s end too.

Let’s go! 💜
🧵 Major street safety redesign/bike improvements for Jersey City 🚨 On the September Council agenda, we’re putting forward a big redesign for major streets including bike lanes/safety: • Summit/Baldwin (Wards C/D) • MLK/Ocean Ave (Wards A/F)

Let's be clear. The Turnpike Authority's plan is not a safety project. It *doubles* the number of lanes to 8 with two bridges for $6.7B. Repair was the NJTA's own proposal, just $260M for 40-years of life. Mayor @StevenFulop is right – repair not expand. newjerseyglobe.com/governor/…

This bike lane would provide residents of the Heights more options for travel between two parks and P.S. 8, as well as the potential to connect to Hoboken, the Essex-Hudson Greenway, and a north-south bike lane to Journal Square. Safety and access for all ages and abilities.
Protected bike lanes are a proven way through Vision Zero to create safer streets for all users, and we should strive to create them wherever it is practically possible. I strongly support a permanent PBL on Manhattan Ave and Franklin Street in the Heights, a corridor which has seen 11 crashes in 5 years - data that speaks for itself - and am hopeful this project will move forward without further delays.

I am paid to work on the Turnpike widening project for my job and I would be happy to see it canceled. It seems completely unnecessary to widen the least congested part of the highway, more and better transit service instead, please!

As a mayor of Jersey City, I don't think anyone in the state has more direct experience in the state than I do when it comes to mass transit. As Governor, I would cancel the turnpike widening project and reallocate the money to create a system that is safe, reliable and clean. Second. when they passed the funding source, they only did it for 5 years which doesn't fix the problem - this needs to be changed. And last, I would bring our bus system back in house to ensure they are running efficiently. You can read more about my policy plans on transit here: stevenfulop.com/wp-content/u…

Gov Murphy… this is out of touch. You have potential ICE Raids as the Governor of the most diverse state in the country, you have potential attacks on the LGBtQ community, you have a president that doesn’t prioritize the environment…. And you prioritize congestion pricing which is really you mostly fighting for the richest 2% of the ppl that can afford to drive their personal vehicles to NYC daily and pay $1000 per month additional to park
Today I sent a letter to President Trump urging his Administration to reexamine New York’s congestion pricing scheme. Congestion pricing is a disaster for New Jersey commuters and must receive the close look it deserves from the federal government.
Community note
Governor Murphy claims that congestion pricing “has never been well-designed or adequately studied”. This is false. The MTA conducted an extensive 4,000 page environmental study evaluating the impacts of congestion pricing. Source: new.mta.info/document/93456

Investing in a PATH expansion and other transit solutions, like bus-only lanes and light rail, will benefit the entire region by alleviating traffic and reducing emissions and crashes. Thank you @StevenFulop @RaviBhalla @RobMenendez4NJ @bmccannstamato and @AsmJohnAllen
First ever canvassing for petition signatures to improve PATH train service! 150 signatures in just 4 hours at JSQ, NWK, Grove and Exchange stations. We presented signatures to @PANYNJ today. Thank you 🙏 everyone who signed! @HudCoStreets @EmMorgen

Mass transit investment is crucial. We submitted a formal letter to the Port Authority prior to their budget vote to express our dissatisfaction with their current support for the PATH the steady deterioration of service. If NJ is going to grow a proper investment in infrastructure is crucial.

If elected Governor I will implement #VisionZero statewide to reimagine our roads. That’s a commitment. Results and track record should matter- In Jersey City we were the first city in NJ to commit and by far the most successful. We decreased traffic related fatalities by 90%.

🧵 On congestion pricing…. I’m in an entirely different place than the press releases in opposition from Trump, Sherrill, Gottheimer, and Murphy. First, This NJ Governor election is about bold leadership and solutions. The question is whether you want someone that just repeats to you what a poll tells them or whether you want someone that understands the issues and actually has core convictions. Do you want someone that is propped up by the same political bosses or someone beholden to you. That is the choice you will make. I’ve been in the same exact place since these conversations started since I was elected against the political machine in NJ.

.@MikieSherrill: If this is your plan for @NJTRANSIT, you're planning to fail: "a combination of...resources in [NJ] and more money coming in from Washington." There won't be federal support under Trump, but NJ's governor can stop an $11B Turnpike widening and use that money.

Transportation has been a key part of what we have done to change #JerseyCity . We have done more in transportation than any municipality in NJ and I’m very proud of what we have built with little help from the state. Couple bullet points below in the thread:

Just 2 days ago Donald Trump said he’s gonna protect women whether they like it or not? Donnie please... Protection for women, especially if we're talking about maternal and mental healthcare, isn't telling them WHAT to do with their bodies it's supporting them and giving them the care they need for what THEY CHOOSE to do with their bodies!!!

We all know Trump was a hustler, but hustling women out of the rights to THEIR OWN body is nasty work!! Hustling Americans out of their hard earned money by selling $500 Trump Sneakers, $60 Trump Bibles, and $100,000 Trump Watches is even nastier!! Tomorrow he’ll be hustling you out of your healthcare rights. Donald Trump talks about how he has concepts of a plan… but the only concept of a plan he has is a plan to hustle YOU

Jersey City has started an incredible experiment to deter Turnpike traffic *and* make Columbus Dr safer for commuters & kids: No left-turns going north on Columbus between 6am-9am. It's finally *faster* to stay on the Turnpike vs cutting-through JC. Thank you Mayor @StevenFulop
Left turns lead to a majority of intersection crashes and are actually a source of traffic congestion. Many cities are increasing restrictions on left-turns to both make intersections a lot safer and improve the overall flow of traffic. Win-win: popularmechanics.com/science…
