This is a national emergency, with Red Scare type tactics being used against teachers who speak-up. Teachers should not have to defend education & democracy alone. Nor they should not have to comply with book bans initiated by a few, well-funded openly racist & fascist orgs.

A survivor of the Sandy Hook School mass shooting in 2012 is a student at Michigan State University: “I am 21-years-old and this is the second mass shooting I’ve lived through. We can no longer allow this to happen. We can no longer be complacent.”

You don't "hate pronouns." You hate the people who are using them. If that makes you uncomfortable, good. It should. You either respect how people are asking you to know and name them, or you don't. But stop pretending it's about language.

41 years ago this week, Justice O'Connor asked her very first question at oral argument. She waited until counsel for Respondents was up in a case called Watt v. Energy Action Ed. Foundation. "Mr. Silard, may I ask you –" She was promptly cut off . . .

Unsolicited teacher advice: kids need on-ramps, especially for procedural type things. A fair bit of the "art" of teaching is sussing out when kids are being disruptive/avoiding work on purpose, and when they just don't know, in practical terms, how to start

It is 8:45PM on Saturday and this is your reminder that neither you nor your students have a 'learning style' because learning styles are not, as far as actual experiment investigation can find, a real thing. This has been your reminder.

Biden’s public pledge represented an affirmation of multiracial pluralism. That’s why it mattered – an acknowledgment that the traditional dominance of white men was never the result of meritocratic structures, but of a discriminatory system that needs to be dismantled.

We are products of our Environment. The “water we swim in” promotes individualism (i.e., Person of the Yr, Artist of the Yr, Teacher of the Yr, Most Valuable Player). We can’t succeed alone, yet we applaud the individual. We must promote & foster collaboration & interdependence.

Fellow teacher came to me today to see if we had more copies of @jeffzentner's Serpent King (we have 50). Students are loving it so much they are telling all their friends to read it! 🐍👑❤️
